If you had to give up your FD

If you had to give up your FD, what "reasonable" car would you upgrade to?

I think for it to be worth it, I would have to get probably the next closest best thing to an FD and get a z06. Although I've never driven one, the two cars seem to have the same base. Throw on a turbo and/or supercharger and you'll have a pretty quick and light car.

I've also heard a lot of FD people upgrade to 966 TT's but for some reason, I've never liked Porsche.

if I had to give up my FD i wouldnt be thinking about getting into a z06. unless I missed the point of this thread. if I had to give up my FD it would be because I need to get some money to pay bills (which i'm not to far off from doing for real) as its not my DD.

Well if you had to give it up and replace it with something else. Realistically, if I had to give up my FD, I'd sell it and put the money into the account I've used to save up money for a future downpayment on a house as it isn't my DD too.

Laz93RX7 12-19-10 12:40 PM

oh ok, if thats the case then if I had a budget its between an evo9 MR been really surprised by what they can do or an MKIV supra.

if I didnt have a budget it would be a Porsche 911 gt3.

HardHitter 12-19-10 12:59 PM

EVO 9 is a surprise choice. Why is that car on the list? Need AWD or just impressed with the potential of the car? I'd take a MKIV Supra too for the power potential and the 2JZ, but I don't know if I could do without it being light and nimble like the FD. At least the z06 has that same power potential and is just a little heavier than the FD.

bewtew 12-19-10 01:03 PM

the c6 z06 is awesome and not crazy expensive.

MAXX65 12-19-10 01:17 PM

A Prius..................If i'm not giving up my FD to put food on the table and roof over my head then I must of started to hate speed and love good gas milage.

FD daily driver till I get my STI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

adamrs80 12-19-10 02:07 PM

For the same money there is nothing else out there than can come close to matching the FD. I think we're being hypothetical so all of us lucky fellas have the money needed to upgrade significantly, so that being the case....I'd have to get an NSX. For me it is the pinnacle. If it had to be domestic I'm a big fan of the C5 Z06. European would be a 993 911.

HardHitter 12-19-10 02:14 PM

The NSX, I don't know. I really like the look of the car and all, but is it really anything close to the FD as far as handling and/or power? That's all I hear about NSX owners is that the car just doesn't have any power. The neighbor across the street had one and he gave me a ride in it. Didn't seem all that great for the money.

kalinakona 12-19-10 02:15 PM

I would probably do a Lotus Exige. Or an s2000

curacaosfinest 12-19-10 02:16 PM

if i was forced to buy another car and give up my FD it would be either an NSX, GTR, or 993 turbo or 997 gt3rs

and if money/family were the concern then i'd probably pick up an STI or EVO as they both have 4 seats but are still fun

HardHitter 12-19-10 02:28 PM

Interesting list of cars but it seems like we all have the same interest.

As far as a 4 door car, I have a 2000 Stage 3 S4 as my daily driver and although I haven't got my Aspec 500R FD tuned to go into boost yet, I think the two cars would be a close race.

The Audi is a refined and comfortable 4 door sleeper which is great as a daily driver and when I want to have some fun. The FD is perfect for that raw and rough feel.

Rx-7Addict 12-19-10 02:32 PM

Lotus Elise / Evora
Porsche 911

I've never driven or been in an NSX so I can only go off of what I've read and photos. I'm pretty sure an RX-7 beats an NSX in most if not every performance category. I just don't think there is a higher quality, more reliable or better looking car that came out of the 90s. It's not all about torque and acceleration.

my cousin had nsx wasnt all that impressive sure its a head turner.

also you think the FDs interior is tight get in an nsx.

Supernaut 12-19-10 03:08 PM

Good question. I'm sure alot of people thought of this hahah.

BMW M Coupe, Elise/Exige, NSX

If I could import anything, I would try to get into any recent TVR, ZZII, VX220 or anything else based on a lotus chassis.

All those cars surprisingly dead reliable hahaha.

dvo 12-19-10 03:43 PM

bmw isetta

bajaman 12-19-10 03:46 PM

GT-R is about the only thing I can think of I would trade/give up my FD for.
Seriously.

Chomper149 12-19-10 03:46 PM

The 4 cars i thought i had to have at some point in my life were the fd, s2k, elise, nsx. they all share a fairly similar base concept but finished in extremely different sides of the spectrum. All are smaller light weight cars with a focus on handling. s2k as a vert, elise as a bare basics gokart, fd as coupe, and a nsx as midship subsupercarish. each has a different key aspect that seperates them apart but they all attempt to be small light weight handling machines. so if i ever had to give up my fd, depending on financial situations, i would have to get either an s2k, elise or nsx.

If I had to give up my car i'd only do it for this car....

R8..GT3...I feel like they've just really outdone themselves with this car...

But my dream build is a 4 Rotor N/A Wide body BMW 850..6spd time attack monster. It would look similar to this...but with much nicer wheels..

How are the 8-series BMW's? There are a few for sale around here really cheap and I can't figure out why...

Well to tell you the truth.....they're just as much as a pain in the ass as our Fd's haha. I wouldn't suggest getting one unless you planned on building it. They get terrible gas mileage, and they're boats. I'd strip the shit out of it... and make it a time attack or drift car.

But I think they came with v-12's a few with v8's... but mostly automatics. The chassis has potential though..it was just more based on luxury speed than performance in my opinion.

Bryan Jacobs 12-19-10 04:26 PM

ive always like the 8 series, i know the some of the v8's came manual but they're rare. the v12's i believe were all auto.

1QWIK7 12-19-10 04:27 PM

A c6z without a doubt. People need to drive or ride in one to understand. Its a serious performer. People think its a downgrade going from fd to a z06 when it's actually an upgrade.
