It's part of the process when listing to negotiate the reserve price with BAT. They suggest a reserve price and you can counter and provide your argument for a higher reserve. Recent sales on BAT are the best evidence in your favor. 100k reserve for a collector grade car like this would absolutely be in the cards after this auction. Mileage and presentation would have to be similar though.
Makes me wonder how many sub 5k mile LHD FDs are out there.
We just passed the 6 year anniversary of this thread. I just reread Fritz's original post. Fun to remember how things were not so long ago. My how they've changed.
Yep!
Hard valuable assets have gone through the roof.
Stating the obvious; our nation's debt/world debt is out of control and must continue to compound annually and this will result in higher prices of FDs, houses, the stock market etc...... UNTIL world governments actually stop bailing businesses and people out. Raising interest rates is only crippling the middle class. The idiocy or genius (diabolical world leaders wanting to issue a digital currency and control everything) is likely the greatest human tragedy of all time based on the number of human lives this insanity will eventually affect because it's truly a worldwide problem. I like using the analogy of Hunger Games. I never read the book but enjoy the movies.
On a personal level I can say that my day-to-day expenses have likely doubled since 2017 and that's pretty scary to think about. When the cost of milk and bread has doubled in 6 years you are in big trouble: Average price data (in U.S. dollars), selected items (bls.gov)

Maybe we had taken the effeciency of the food and supply chains too much for granted. Maybe $1 bananas are in fact the right price. Good nutritional value there!

Good point, I mean TVs are super cheap too; we'll all receive our assisted living handouts, sit in our rented cubical, watch tv and eat bananas

No joke. I can tell you our monthly costco trip that averaged $350 last year now averages over $700. Fuel for our summer trip was over $7k when I originally budgeted for $3k on the high end. Real world basic necessity cost of living has gone up over 50% when the politicians are saying around 8%.
Idiocracy would be a better parallel but we are getting waaaaayyyy off topic for a car forum.
Let's not go down the road of politics so you guys don't force me to delete posts and clean this up. I have other **** to do.
2001/RHD with Approx 73k firm price and 70k miles is not for me but someone outside of the us might snag it?
To me the price seems to be a little steep for the US market especially with customs tax shipping etc..... for a car I don't think you can legally drive yet. Not sure what the Canadian market is up to but I'm sure you have a good handle on that. Is it priced fairly for the Canadian market? Do you have any insight into the RHD market outside of the US? I have a feeling the price is rising.

Generally we are puzzled by the add, frankly. If Canada were Australia perhaps A$85,000 might be market.
S8 are still rare in Canada although we have been able to import since late 2014.
We have a two tier buyers market here, where, for some, C$100,000 is pocket change.
C$45,000 might be a stretch for the rest of us.
Seller is using pictures from the Japan side before shipping.
He claims to have spruced the car up once it arrived. But no pictures.
The map puts his location about 2 blocks from my house.
yes, indeed. I've given up trying to figure out BaT buyers. The VR with about the same mileage that sold in March went for $45K. Yeah this one's a little cleaner, but $30K more?

Seems like all it takes on BAT is timing for the right bidders. Not even sure anymore if the actual car matters or not in some of these bidding wars. In the last two months I have seen a few Jaguars that should have sold for 50-70k ended up selling for 90k, 156k, and 175k. Unreal.
