Seller hit a few key points:

1, Very nicely detailed (up top anyway).
2. No nonsense compression test.
3. Paint thickness indications, to relieve concern about a repaint.

In the collector world, "mintness" "rarity" "proof of originalty" are very important factors. Compare your 1964 spoked Mickey mantle card to a mint, certified Mickey Mantle rookie card.

I thought MB/Tan were at the low end of the desirebility totem pole.

But maybe that was because there were those not few 250,000 mile totally trashed examples.

Maybe a MB/Tan in mintish condition, therefore, is even more the valuable?

Assuming the driveability of a stock car is more or less the same, the March $45,000 cars seem a steal now.

Thanks to those who have been topping up the poll recently!

Thats it right there. MB either looks like total junk or immaculate. There really is no in-between. When the paint is in great shape, polished and protected, it is one of the best looking colors out there. But when its not, it just looks like an old sandblasted bluish/greenish chalky color. I've met so many people that are astonished when they see a good example of the color and they always mention they have never seen that color and it is hard to convince them that they are the same color as the bad looking one.

Montego Blue in their natural habitat.. Rare day in 2020 where we had four LHD MB randomly show up to a cruise. We lost one a long the way. But the remaining three were the stars in the deep forest.

(Tan interior was not offered in Canada.) (R1 and Touring were not offered specifically, but the parts were offered as options. See above regarding the non-R1 CYM example.)

The seller was super involved towards addressing any questions or doubts regarding the car and auction which I think played a role.

Looks like LHD pricing and RHD pricing of S8 (Australia basis) are starting to intermingle.

Need more LHD star-cars!

Interesting Hagerty update for April 2023. They have values going down quite a bit from January. A bit surprising with that new record sale on Bring a Trailer last month.

I'm guessing everyone knows their Condition 1-4 system (1 is best, 4 is worst). Oh, and these are their prices for 1993s.

January 2023:
1 - $89,000
2 - $66,200
3 - $47,100
4 - $27,800

April 2023:
1 - $81,900 (down $7,100 ~8%)
2 - $58,300 (down $7,900 ~12%)
3 - $41,400 (down $5,700 ~12%)
4 - $24,500 (down $3,300 ~12%)

How to value MY FD.

This one is very close spec to my car, even the aftermarket do-dads.

We will see how it goes!

it depends on when you file, how backed up they are and if you can do it electronically vs a paper check, and if they flag you for an audit or something.

@TK7

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1993-mazda-rx-7-220/

This one with a 99 look conversion was very well presented and fetched US$65,000.

How is your compression?

What is the state of the suspension?

Good compression and updated suspension would go a long way to offset the high mileage.

Thanks @Redbul !

That one has a LOT less miles though

I havent tested compression but she starts immediately and pulls very hard.

suspension is brand new, all new bushing and coilovers.

Good to know actual compression figures though. Not that expensive to get done. Removes the guess work. Want to see figures of 100 and above.

The few FD I have stripped to the bone show very little corrosion. Results may differ from region to region.

But if motor is strong and undercarraige and suspension are clean, mileage might not matter that much.

Go through interior and replace all the anti-squeak strips and anti-rattle foams.

Replace broken pieces if possible.

A mileage discount is inevtitable, but would be good deal for someone for a solid car.

I have 167,000 km on my car. It drives and rides like a new GT.

I may be a bit biased:

Floor price for random early S8 on Yahoo Japan is about US$35K and in Australia maybe US$50K equivalent.

Add $15,000 to $20,000 for LHD in the US and a range a of US$50~60k might be a happy result for buyer and seller in your case.

(But don't take my word for it.)

This 1992 Type X with 70,000km had one (1) stuck fastener in the entire car.

My car's doppleganger is stuck at C$21,000 at the moment with 2 days left.

Disappointing result for me. Very high mileage for a Japan car. Seller kept talking his own car down. Maybe should have posted a compression test to reassure buyers about the 2014 alleged engine rebuild. Nice pick-up for someone. Price is probably high enough that we will not see this one parted out. See it stateside in two years for US$50,000?

That wheel fitment alone (and on the primary picture at that) is enough to subtract $10k+ USD

Will be very interesting to see what this one does on BaT. Seems like this is the type of modified car BaT would not have accepted in the past, or am I imagining that?
