it feels like is accelerates the same in 4th gear as it does in 1st.

its not actually that fast, but the shape of the acceleration curve is like a square wave.... the FD is like a small sine wave and then a big sine wave. most everything else is just a flat line....
Exactly, get on an old v6 CJ5, put some headers on it etc..... that's a car/truck with some character.

The FD (fun on the street car) is still my favorite street sports car because it has endless character, however 993 turbo is super fun and also gorgeous so I'd love to have one but the price is too high to play for me.

If I was a car collector I'd start with the FD, then 993 RS and I'm done.

my friend bought a 997, and its the only expensive car i've been in that you could see why it was expensive. its kind of a fun story, my friend had a poster of a 911 in school, like you do, but he decided he wanted one and started saving. fast forward to 2009, and he went and paid cash for the thing (i think sticker was ~90k). lots of 14 year olds say they are going to do that, but its the first ive heard of someone ACTUALLY doing it.
he also got the stuff he wanted. value in these seems to be when its optioned as close to race car as possible, but those people are missing the boat, the big radio is great...

Drive and enjoy and you'll probably break even in the end (sales price/not cost hehe), similar to the FD

Here's an example of nice 964 but dang 100k is crazy money for the level of automobile you're buying. It's GT3 or GT4 money, just doesn't make sense but I do love these old 911s.

Agreed that's crazy money but I already like the seller:

I had a 1994 964 3.6 Turbo and loved it. The 964 C2's remain my favorite Porsche's, but they are expensive for anything nice. $65,000 plus.

Clean, stock VR 1994 R2 with 48k miles just sold for $53k on BAT: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1994-mazda-rx-7-54/

And a new listing for a VR 1993 touring with 30k miles just appeared: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1993-mazda-rx-7-153/

The latter one sold for $33k in July 2019 with 1k fewer miles, so should also give a good sense of the current market for clean, stock, low mileage FDs.

$53K seems kind of low. Has the market topped out?

BC

Warning! Oil price is up. C$ is up. Border is open to vehicular traffic. Watch out!

Expect 500,000 Canadians to come streaming across the border any day now.

I still think there's a seasonal effect, as people in snowy climates tend not to be in the market for sports cars in the fall and winter.

Not for a car with 50k miles. Most of the FDs that have sold for over 50k had low miles or it was an R car etc.... Market is red hot. If someone listed a well kept very low mileage 94 or 95 today it would sell for a record price.

I agree, $50k+ is a VERY strong price for a car with 50k miles.

R2s are no joke because that denotes the desirable '94-'95 model year...... if this most recent BaT example was SSM, @djseven would have paid like $97k for it

I have a mid-mile Brilliant Black R2 completely ruined by an engine/trans/diff swap as well as PPF delete, rollbar install...... shiet, the thing doesn't even have a dang oil pan

Completely devalued. Would fetch $17.55 on the mighty BaT site I'll bet. Wouldn't have it any other way, either

I am not going to live long enough to have the car I truly want (*).

That's what die-casts are for.
