A great condition FD regardless of it being modded or not will fetch a pretty penny. Granted, mildly modded as close to OEM will still out weigh those who go as far as changing out the engine to a 3 rotor or a 4 rotor. Nothing against those who did (kudos to you!)
Great to see there are still some of us who have kept our rides for so long.
I'm willing to bet that if I were to sell my one owner 3-rotor, it would fetch a much higher price than $78K. But maybe I am just dreaming. Not selling anyway.

On a side topic, I just visited the Ferrari plant and museum in Modena Italy and saw this "Roma" model being picked up by its owner. Not a big Ferrari fan, but this model sure is nice (click on the pics if they are at first pixelated):

And the good news? It starts at only around 220K!

That's a beauty. I feel like it's a Ferrari for the person that loves Ferrari but doesn't want a "Ferrari"?

im hoping to visit the home of Ferrari someday.

While the Roma is very pretty, the important part is driving it. I don’t think you’ll enjoy the interior experience. Don’t get me wrong, it is after all a Ferrari. A special thing. I still think I’d take an Italia over the latest and greatest. I find the more computers are involved, the worse a vehicle behaves.

a big reason why I would never sell my FD. As close to analogue for the win!

These days,if your car is finished and worthy of putting in a showroom you can ask anything you want!

We may be in a bubble for a lot of things but these cars are few and far between I don't foresee them ever being affordable again, price accordingly kids!

It's an odd feeling now that these cars are starting to feel both rare and expensive. Back when they were just uncommon it was fun to see another one on the road. Now that I hardly ever see other RX7s I'm starting to worry that I would never be able to replace mine if it got wrecked. It is funny to see people react to the car though, it gets a lot more attention than it used to.

I agree I don't see a nice FD ever selling for less than 30k unless the world is an entirely different place. As in the one universal government way of say "hunger games" lol. At this time I believe prices are topping out and will pull back in the near term or at the end of 2022. All these price bubbles are pretty much related to the money that's been printed since the late 2008 money storm began. If the fed keeps doing what they've been doing along with the rest of the world all fiat currencies will go the way of Venezuela etc...

Hopefully the fed maintains it's position of raising rates and slowing the printer down and just maybe we can still save the world/our country from complete collapse.

With that said I'm hoping a nice one sells for 100k or more this year (easily possible) just to set a 6 digit bar

Completely irrelevant here but I just wanted to say that I prefer the old tittle of this thread. I used to get a chuckle just seeing how much we've come since 2017.

Hahaha. Yeah. 3 times the original hurdle now. "Why its so difficult to sell an FD for more than $75,000".

+1 Fritz. I'm of the same thought.

This is one of the most disheartening aspects of 'modern' car collectors / collecting imo. This obsession with value(s) among owners of expensive / rare vehicles. Sure there are some people who relish in the thought that monetary value was conjured out of thin air but I personally believe Japanese cars were meant to be attainable for everyday people and can't be happy when the dream gets harder and harder for others to achieve.

Irrational exuberance ='s today's market.

Fritz... As usual, I pretty much agree with your assessment. The incredible money machine has caused a lot of the problems we have today. Not sure there's any fixing it even if the Fed keeps raising rates. It will slow the economy for sure, but I suspect that causes us to go into recession. Later this year. The supply chain problem isn't going away for a long time and there is no "Fed" to fix that.

That all said, I hope an FD sells for over $100,000 this year and one might.

Not sure about where you all live, but our grocery and pharmacy store shelves are back to fully stocked and overflowing.

My guess is we will see some competitive discounting soon.

And it seems Dollarama has got new shipments of Hotwheels lately, including many examples of FB, I might add.

(Where else can you get an FB for $1.50?)

We are living with $8/gal retail gasoline, and there is no discernable decrease in traffic.

People are just happy to get out and get on with it.

(Of course, the old saying " one nuclear bomb can ruin your whole day" may be back in vogue.)

Grocery is stocked, but certain brands and items have disappeared and replaced by others (not necessarily equivalent). But, grocery is not the only outlet for the supply chain...everything metal is way behind. Lead times on the products I sell have gone from 3-4 weeks to 12 weeks in some cases. I waited for six months for some damper actuators. Never mind the chip shortage plaguing the auto/tech industry.

Redbul... I gather you are saying that there are no supply chain problems to speak of in British Columbia?

And, although gas is $8 per gallon, everybody seems fine with that, or, maybe hasn't changed anyone's behavior?

You said you were not sure where I lived, as though my comment that supply chain problems have not gone away was an unusual experience at least where you live.

I sure wish I lived where you live...

It was shocking to see the sparse amount of items on grocery store shelves, so the return to full stores is at least an encouraging sign.

Hopefully other sectors of the supply chain will open up.

Like most cities in Canada, Vancouver is an Island City, surrounded by an ocean of land.

Come to TN where life has changed "very little" in spite of the China virus & Biden other than the price of food and gas..$365 /gal (up from $250).
Schools never closed, masks mostly optional and vaccines easy to get.......like most of mid-America.

The 458 is utterly fantastic. Many seem to agree that it is one of the best Ferraris ever made. I have only driven one other Ferrari (430 Scuderia), but I can definitely say the 458 will probably rank in my automotive top ten for the foreseeable future. Still wouldn’t trade an FD for one though!

That's not where supply chain issue lies unfortunately, uchip get hit the hardest and it isn't slowing down anytime soon, and that's like what everything is made out of in modern world. Material order for my work gone from 16 weeks lead time to 16 months, and folks in the industry has caught wind that manufacture have to harvest uchip from old junk to fullfil order, it is that bad

ZE Power... My nearly-son-in-law is an electrical engineer at Lutron who was recently put in charge of procurement. He tells me all sorts of stories about trading chips/circuit boards of various types between himself and other manufacturers. Sort of a scrounger sort of thing where he may have one kind of chip that another guy needs and that guy has chips he needs.

I’m not surprised, we are in what we call the rob Peter to pay Paul mode This will likely to go on for 2 more years, and I personally won’t buy anything eletronic related product this year or next, unless I really need it.
