It seems they are purely for collection as well. Imported as display item only. Someone is willing to pay a lot to stay ahead of the demand curve.

Will he same thing happen with the Spirit R?

There certainly are a number of Spirit R squirreled away in Canada.

Also there was a II Nur at a local pop up meet here this week.

Oh, trust me...as good as he was, he irritated the hell out of me. I'd often have to rush through finishing my dinner and clearing the table to run back to my room to post. My mind would be racing non stop. It was the worst when guests were over!

Base red 1993 with 16k miles on BAT:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1993-mazda-rx-7-145/

Should be interesting to see where this ends up.

Looks minty apart from some wear on the center console trim.

There is also a 1993 black R1, though it has TMU and a funky automatic cluster swap so those will likely limit it:

They look to be the stock cloth seats from a base model.

Yeah hard to tell, could be worn / sun faded R1 seat, with the amount of rust on suspension and engine component that car seems to have been sitting out in the element. The rear pocket is on drive seat so they should be LHD seat tho, will be interesting to see how much the BB R1 go for as it is not that clean overall.

My R1 is in similar condition as the base so will be interested to see how that one go as well.

here's a pic of my cloth seats from my base '93 - those appear to be the R1 cloth to me

The seats on the black car are the standard R1 synthetic suede seats. My car started life as a 1993 BB R1 and had exactly the same seats.

After checking out the VR base with 16k miles I can't say I'd consider it super clean. Lots of cover up, new rotors (maybe it had some HPS pads or something with some torque/grit for autox and squeaked, more likely just rusty AF etc...), calipers painted, mirrors painted/sticky interior (so it sat in the sun more than typical for a pampered sports car), all sorts of black paint used underneath to cover up what? etc.... Already at 48k will probably sell for 55 or 60k and there could be a few issues, OR NOT, but I don't get the lovin feeling on this one.

Again the best car sold recently was the VR 95, that was a keeper. I'd prefer it over this at 45k for sure. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1995-mazda-rx-7-12/

BC How to find a car for less than $25,000

So will our $25,000 even get us a parts car these days?

How would we find one?

Yes. Someone would gladly sell a parts car for $25k. The market hasn’t gotten that crazy yet!

So here is an unusual car to add to the pricing database:

I sold my FD for $72,000 CAD (~$58,500 USD) on Saturday.

FYI that’s approximately 55% of what I had spent building it.

solid car, almost new everything, turn key, he drove it 1,000km home through the Rockies with zero issue:

Yeah, the market is officially nuts on FD's. So many issues with that car, not all of which could be easily fixed. The wrong cluster with inaccurate mileage would have been enough to keep me away. Plastics are all bad, cracked windshield, trashed shifter, seats are decent but not great....All I can say is WOW on this market right now.....

Imagine what a well kept, slightly modded FD will do. When I say slightly, I mean externally it’s practically off the assembly line. Same with the interior. All bits look factory and ready to go. Under the hood however.. that’s when things can get interesting.

Shocking. The interior and paint and body of my FD is much nicer, no mileage discrepancy, and even though there is an accident on my carfax from 15 years ago, it was professionally restored top to bottom a couple years ago. That black car wouldn't hold a candle to mine. Can't believe the value has hit $50k on a driver quality car. Gets you thinking, sure would be nice to pay off the house early...

Congrats on the sale. I'm glad you found a buyer who appreciates this crazy nice build.

I for one am shocked a R1 brought a premium even with a list of issues and concerns…..wait a minute. No I’m not.

This low mileage car should run high into the 70s but who knows these days. I recently sold my business and the market for every sports/luxury car and any boat is comical to say the least. Wild times for sure.
