Got you, I'm also familiar with GT3s from a purchasing and selling standpoint.
The touring and RS models command demand but ordinarily, if you paid over retail for your typical GT3 you overpaid other than in this current insane economy.
The best predictor of the future is the past, generally, GT3s lose at least 25k at some point during the 1st 10 years post-production. The 991s including RS models were stupid cheap at one point.
YEP, Gt4s (typically selling between 80 and 110 since production on the used market) have been a good value play but surprisingly haven't kept up with GT3s during these inflation/pandemic times.
One thing is certain, the current world economy does not have a bright future.
PS: Another thing to consider is that production numbers have steadily climbed so I also don't see a bright future for 991 or .2 values in say 10 years.

Edit.........OOPS, I read that as 2005 not 2015. Getting a 15 for 96 was definitely the bottom. I was tempted to get an RS for 150 about that time and they are now like 230.......again in just over 2 years times have changed, A LOT! I do think the 991s will come back down for sure but a nice 6 GT3 may not be under 100 again.
I will always regret selling the RS but the rest I just upgraded until the Mustang took out the last one in 2019

It seems borderline pretentious saying this within the echo chamber but it feels like RX7 love is at a fever pitch right now.. I randomly decided to swing by a car meet last night after seeing a post for it on IG, the crowd was on the younger side, I was the only RX7 there and within 30 minutes two different guys came up and gifted me an RX7 Hot Wheels toy and wanted to talk about the car. Pretty cool experience.

I ended up buying one online just because how cool I thought it was instead.

Apologies if this isn't the right place to ask, I'm in the market for FD RX7 and wanted to get some thoughts on these 2 cars for sale (I'm in CA fwiw):
https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sf...417161135.html
Pros: Fully stock, recent rebuild, new clutch, interior looks good, compression test looks good. Car is already in CA and smog is done, easy logistically
Cons: Repaint, seller admits that paintjob is ok, not bad not great. Mileage seems on the higher side but a bunch of recent work has been done
https://miami.craigslist.org/brw/cto...414972291.html
Pros: low mile 1 owner car, seller sent additional photos and it looks mint. Originally owned by older dude. Some mods (most parts are from pettit): downpipe, mid pipe, CAI, AST, pettit ECU, intercooler. Seller willing to put back to stock since I mentioned CA smog
Cons: have to deal with logistics of buying car across the country, shipping cost, smog concerns in CA. Speedo has been replaced (not sure if this is a con). On original engine, though this shouldn't be a concern as long as it's been maintained and compression looks good?
Pricing wise they both seem to be priced at around market based on recent BAT and C&B results. However both cars have been on the market for about a month now so makes me wonder why people have been passing up on them. I plan to ask for ppi for either car

Knowing almost nothing about the two cars, I'd go for the California car, putting things back to stock comes with its own problems, and smog can be annoying on out of state cars. Flying to LA to check it out in person is much easier, and the drive home will be fun.
As for time on the market, it's a good amount of money. People will take their time making a deal, and the more they cost the less buyers there are.
Good luck!

Yea I'd go for the California car...first. you're in California, gives you a better opportunity to see it in person and do the ppi. I would definitely want to get details on the rebuild and other work done to the car.
Mr2 is right, it can be a hassle dealing with CA smog for out of state cars.. especially modified.
Miami car does look good. If the Cali car doesn't pan out, I'd entertain it but smog/inspection would be a concern that I would have to have figured out.

Thanks for the inputs! I live in the bay area so the LA car would be way more convenient for sure, especially to see the repaint in person. And of course can't think of a better way to get to know the car than driving it back home.
The Miami car I was planning to fly out if PPI looks to complete transaction with the seller in person. Then have the car shipped back and fly my butt home
One thing I forgot to mention is that the LA car is 8 owner (1995) vs. Miami (1993) car being 1 owner. The 1 owner car is kind of enticing though I guess condition matters more.

Good luck, Jumbotron. You couldn't have asked for a better honeymoon drive than the Pacific Coast Highway back up to the bay.

Also spoke to both sellers over the phone. LA car started off as a project car for the seller, who restored it over the years including the engine rebuild, repaint, interior/exterior refresh. He owns a shop so did most of the mechanical stuff himself.
Miami car was 1 owner car owned by older gentleman who sold it to the current seller recently. The current seller hasn't transferred the title to his name yet as he wanted to keep it a 1 owner car, which implies to me he bought it to flip it. Not really a huge problem though I wonder if it was maintained well by the current seller if his plans were to flip the car. The car itself seems to be in great condition and PPI should reveal anything serious

100 percent CA car.
If you like tan interior and base model then maybe FL car but as others have said might be a PIA to pass inspection in CA.
Both cars look like great examples. Good luck!

a stock car will easily pass the dyno style test (its weird, we have 3 different tests in CA depending on where you are!), but the stationary test where they just do idle and 2500rpm is the hardest one, avoid if possible. the third test is actually in a county where they don't do testing at all, but i think if you bring a car in they make you smog it anyways.
plus there is the visual part of the test; where the smog guy will look for some semi random stuff (it depends on if they think the CARB has rented out the place across the street and is spying on them or not). it is actually very helpful if you know where the EGR valve is, and the charcoal canister and the T1 plug wire (so they can pretend they are checking the timing). because the odds of the smog person having seen an Rx7 before are really small.
so if the out of state car really is stock, it should have no trouble passing.

just to elaborate, the California test is weird, and nobody outside of California really understands it, so they have a hard time (and or don't care) about putting it back together to stock.

I don't think the FL car has an airpump and therefore also likely has some exhaust mods. 95s in general have lots of advantages vs 93 and all black interior is a must for me.

This is a great oppurtunity to move away from Cali and instead move to FL and buy the Miami car. We are just a little more free in this part of the Country. Lol. All jokes aside if you are staying in Cali I would buy something that is not going to give you a headache when it comes to passing smog test. I live in Fl and I am unfamiliar with smog test.

I would always go for the cleaner, lower-mileage car - especially since the asking prices here are essentially the same.
A not-great paint job is always going to be a not-great paint job - unless you spend $7-$10k to respray it.
Hard to tell from the few pictures, but the interior condition of the CA car is certainly not mint. The driver door storage drawer cover is broken and missing and the mirror switch also looks like it has a broken tab. What else is broken?
Again, a not-great interior is always going to be a not-great interior - unless you spend $3k+ to fix it.
On the scale of difficult things in the FD universe, getting a properly running car with twins to pass CA smog is not that difficult. Air pump and stock cat are key (and the properly running bit).

Haha yeah me and the gf are like halfway considering leaving but bound here by work. Just need to convince her with housing prices and hide a FD in the garage lol
Ran a carfax on the FL car, looks like there's a weird mileage discrepancy, open recall (60504 fuel leak recall), 2 accidents though carfax says they're minor. It had 63k miles in 2012 but odometer was replaced in 2014 with a 54k mile odo. Seller said that speedo replacements are common on these cars but didn't mention that it had 63k before. To be fair not sure if he knew.
Link to carfax: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Fg5...ew?usp=sharing
Starting to think that there's a bit too many little things with the FL car considering the asking price. Maybe this is a good opportunity to haggle down a bit..
Also good call on the airpump will check with seller if it's removed
