Yes. I’ve seen modded FDs on there too, but very lightly modded.

Engines don't lost compression from sitting...... a rotary can however have coolant seal failure if it sits for years with old degraded coolant. Based on the vacuum my 1200 mile Montego Blue FD pulls at idle, the compression is excellent. Maybe I'll check compression and install new spark plugs over the winter for the hell of it.

I also agree with Dale that these cars don't require anything special for maintenance. Troubleshooting the sequential twin turbo system is another story altogether however

If you’re talking about the one at Rich Motron Mazda, see my post #4609 in this thread. I further looked at it since and am reasonably sure it’s has a re-man in it. They’re still asking $80,000 for it.

How often do race cars need engine rebuilds?

Drive an FD like a racecar, and expect higher maintenance requirements.

Good to know. And 1200 miles….praise the rotary Gods that is impressive! Have you ever changed the spark plugs on it? I’ve read somewhere that you’ve had it for quite some time.

it depends on the race. my friends and i, built an Integra (or three) and went racing. in a 25 hour long race, it would last about 12-16 hours before we needed the duct tape to keep it together. in a normal race 20-40 minutes it ran for three whole seasons with no issues (2 races a weekend, 7 weekends a year, its about the same amount of time)

this is the after picture, the duct tape is actually holding it together. it did run its fastest lap like this though, and it did finish

That was a pretty awesome video (a lot of that information I did not even know). He was sorta on key with some of the issues he named off, but I love how he really glossed over all of it stating "every car has issues, but not all of them drive like this". This video was very well done, I really enjoyed it!

I'm a big fan of Hagerty's media team, all their videos are great.
And they explained the turbo system correctly! Always nice to hear.

Yeah, you would need a specialty shop to do a rebuild, but everything outside of the engine keg is like any other car.

What if it's failing emissions or won't boost correctly?

Those have definitely been covered to death on this forum and I'm fairly certain, unless your car starts up and drives away on its own, there's no issue that hasn't been covered in some way shape or form. The archives alone would assist you in building a bare shell into a show ready, perfectly driving car.

No plans any time soon

The '94 CW original owner w/50k miles just went for $64,000 plus fees. Third highest for an FD on BaT after the 4k mile MB touring back in 2019 and the 20k mile VR base model back in August of this year.

Might be time to list the 1000k MB with 100k reserve

PS Property still cheap vs collector car value Hell even tesla might be a better deal long term

I was watching that one closely because it resembled my 94 CW that I purchased last September.

I feel lucky to own a CW FD. They are beautiful and I’m happy to see prices on the rise.

'94 CW Canadian LHD converted to a F&F fantasy car just traded hands up here for over C$100,000.

The underlying car was no match for the above CW, so that would put the value of the modifications at over C$50,000.

For sure. I mean I literally wrote a bunch of articles on these topics. But for someone who wants to buy and collect these cars, and take it somewhere for service, options are limited.

Yeah it would be nice if I could plausibly trust any well-referred mechanic with my pride and joy. Time economy.

We have one main rotary shop in our area and about four others who will take on engine builds.

We have a deep pool of rotary owners, which means the main shop has steady business.

One of the owners of the main shop is highly active on our local forum and is willing to share his knowledge and opinions at length.

This supports a strong community and hence the value of our cars.

In my opinion, if you have such a shop in your area, it is good to give then some level of your annual budget to keep the shop vibrant.

There’s one shop about 3 hours from me, and that’s about it. I’m one of 2 rotary owners in my town, and the other hangs out with a different crowd than myself so I’m pretty much on my own here. Hopefully some time in the near future I’ll end up near a larger community with a shop nearby.

The Hagerty video is up to 220k views, pretty damn good for a 2 day old video that's 15 minutes long. Good indicator for genuine interest in the 7

I'm just happy I got my FD when I did, and that I have no plans to ever sell it.
