so with the FD that is sort of a trick question. once Mazda found out that there was not going to be a 1996 model year (and maybe that Ford was taking over Jan 1, 1996), they built a second run of 1995 FD's, in December of 1995.
These cars didn't even arrive in the USA until the end of February of 1996.

of course it LOOKS like they were sitting there forever (and i'm sure the dealers hated it, they have some period of time between when they get the car, and when they need to start paying for it)

1995 was also at the end of the Savings and Load Crisis (and the busting of the bubble economy in Japan), and also the collector car market had tanked. its partly why there were FD's that me and my friends could buy

so fun trivia the last FD to be sold new in the USA was 2004... which means there was an FD under warranty until 2011!

I'm not looking for a project platform, I'm looking for a highly original LHD R1 in the original launch color to keep and enjoy in the future, with mods--if any--limited to reversible bolt-ons.

Idk if a touring fits your bill, given how nice it looks at initial glance. If so, would be worth shooting an offer maybe. Looks well taken care of, but I'm no expert.

BC Initial D Wave Coming

Initial D themed restaurant just opened in our hood. We have about 10 FD within a mile of this location. Its gonna be a big draw in an initial D mad town.

The Initial D cult is breaking out. Here is a taste of what is to come.

Is the battery cover a big deal? I have a car with 77k miles that still has it.

1999 Series 8, Version 5, RHD with 141,000 km and 5 km on local rebuilt motor, standing since 2017, largely stock, but tired looking, C$28,000, earlier this week. (Listed t C$31,500).

Car needs to pass local Vehicle Inspection, after having recently been ordered by police, to do so.

Presence of the battery cover will net an extra $10K for sure.

Just a note that there's an FC on BaT right now that could top $30,000...

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...QslONvo16zbI80

Nah. Only went for $28,500.

10K MB with okay-ish paint:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1993-mazda-rx-7-151/

Guessing this one will go for 60K, could have been more if the paint was pristine is my guess.

Cover was an option in that year?

So it might not be technically "missing"

Plus $10,000 for no sunroof.

MB and tan has been panned on these pages.

Maybe this one might not go so high.

Cost $12,000 to convert it to VR and Black.

All years came with the hatch cover. Base model is the lowest tier but even then it is only a price differential of 8% between the R and base, with the touring falling in the middle (from hagerty). Even then I think we can all agree that it really comes down to condition, year, and color that causes the biggest impact (of course RHD imports bringing in the least). It would be great to see if this hits the big numbers as it would mean that even the 93 tan interior cars can get there. Montego and sunroof cars have already proven themselves as the current record holder on BAT is a 94 MB touring car

My base '93 didn't come with the rear hatch cover. Do you think it's too late to go back to the dealer and collect it?

You could try.

A few years ago a member up here made a casual enquiry at the local dealer, and got the last battery cover they had in stock.

Actually, I didn't believe the rear cargo cover was included with the base trim. Just confirmed by looking at my '93 brochure that it was part of the touring package.

You know I've been looking all over and you are correct. I had a 93 and it came with a cover but it wasn't a base, it was a touring. My 94 pep (no Bose) has a cover. And yeah every base car that i have now looked up that is a 93 has the cover missing. What threw me off was that not only did i have a 93 but that every rear bar has the hooks for the cover. WTF eeeew... Dang, talk about mazda cheapening out on people.

That's why I love this place. Even after all these years, there are things to learn

When I was shopping for my car back in the day I visited a few dealers and picked-up a couple of brochures along the way. Still have them both and they come in handy as a reference/reminder from time to time.

In case anyone is interested, here's a pic of the options listed in the '93 brochure:

Yep, cover was standard on Tourings but was a dealer option. I think that's why the covers that don't have the holes for the Bose speakers are so uncommon, it wasn't a standard feature it was one of those dealer installed options.
