That red one that just sold on eBay looked great. Like you guys, I’m surprised it did not sell for higher. For us who don’t plan on selling anytime soon, it’s fascinating to see the price range for clean FDs.

Notes: i expect this car to do around 28K, given it's title and the current misfire (compared to what's on eBay, from 50K to 90K). we'll see if i'm right, or frikken nuts. even with an engine seal rebuild, you're into a FD3S for around $20,000 less than they're being listed at. : )

Buy the dips.
The very high prices could well bring out more supply.
The lucky or the nimble may be able to spot a bargain and act quickly.
Was the Halifax car an example of this?
My guess is we will soon see how deep the pool of no-holds-barred buyers there are out there.
How many parts cars will go for $50,000, before the market goes "meh!".

Definitely not typical. Usually there are one or two LHD cars with perhaps a tired few heavily bodykitted RHDs thrown in with silly asking prices.

New guy here looking to get into an FD, watching the market potentially crush my dreams. Was keeping tabs on the yellow FD on carsandbids - slow going at first, then bidding war to $63.5K!! Granted it looks like a very clean build with premium parts, but its still a high mileage repainted car.
Aside from entering as a buyer at the worst possible time, I'm intrigued by this market and wonder if it will last. As a buyer I'm concerned that high prices will increase the supply of cars with issues being passed off as something they're not. I've already seen several ads with high asking prices and sketchy or very little information. But for a clean well sorted FD, seems like sky is the limit since there is basically no supply - maybe 2 or 3 cars at any given time across the entire US - and a large number of buyers with deep pockets determined to own one. Hope I find one eventually.

Like I said, I had been watching the auction since Friday and was prepared to spend whatever it took to win it. Unfortunately a surprise eBay verification screen kept me from placing my bid, which I was (foolishly, in retrospect) doing at the last minute.
One of the main things that attracted me to that car was how pristine the interior was. Seats not stretched out (which is uncommon), no peeling 93 plastics, no sun fading, etc. Also had been owned since '94 and had mostly original pristine paint, no rust, no accidents.
A forum member here was nice enough to relay my wish to purchase after the fact to the new owner (for a price much higher than the final bid, I might add), and he is apparently not interested in selling. Can't say I blame him, I just hope the car stays nice. (and wish it was in my garage :p )

I agree. It is a completely unmolested survivor that looks like it has 1/3 of the mileage it actually has. It's the perfect car to keep stock, or at least only do reversible bolt-ons.
