Every time I see this thread at the top, I laugh at the title:
"How to value your FD and why today it's difficult to sell for 25k or more"

Seems like it should be changed to:
"How to value your FD and why today it's NOT difficult to sell for 25k or more"

No it is difficult to sell your car for more than $25,000, because ..........who really wants to sell their car?

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1993-mazda-rx-7-151/

This one looks legit (2 owner well kept car). Possibly bad front shock, oil leak and a thousand scratches (should have a done a super good detail/paint correction to make this thing look like new) but otherwise looks SWEET!

Will probably need a lot of basic maintenance but I have a good feeling overall on this one.

I'll say 65k? Mileage and good storage will really bring up the value but tan interior, paint, tires and possible lack of some maintenance (fuel filter, belts, hoses, fluid changes and leaks etc...) will probably bring it down a bit. You never know could sell for 55 or over 70 and break the current BAT record.

Full tan interior too. IMO the worst combination for the FD, MB on Tan. I already know I will be amazed at the final price.

I decided to list my project as a roller due to the current market. I'll be close to breaking even if I finish my car and then post it vs. selling it as is now and then selling off all my parts. I don't even know what I'd get next but I want t be out of this "project car" stage in my life.

Hahaha...

Just a note on BaT sales values. I notice that when a car is sold "No Reserve" they trade for less. An extremely nice, low mile no reserve FB just sold for $10,000. Woukld have been at least $15,000 is it had had a reserve.

I assume this base mb is no reserve? I don't even know how to check that on BAT.

on BaT they typically publish " No Reserve" in the header if that's the case. Unless somethings changed recently this definitely has a Reserve. I'm guessing around 45k for reserve. I'm thinking they'll get 60.

Just an example of a "no reserve" listing for any who don't frequent BaT.. this just posted (I keep my eye on 911s for some reason 🤦‍♂️, thinking I'll get one some day)

I'm in the same boat. Mine will be listed at some point when I get around to it. It's a running example, but not a garage queen. I've got too much going on in my life and need to get some house work completed which the funds will help with.

What do you guys think of this FD at carsandbids? 1994 Mazda RX-7 for Sale - Cars & Bids (carsandbids.com) Same place where the yellow FD with high miles went for 63k.

26 seems to be a decent number for that car. It’s got some substantial enhancements though. I was never a fan of Montego blue. Even less with a tan interior. But alas, it’s done nicely.

Nothing really special about this one. Just middling everything. I thought the comment that the car "is powered by a twin-turbo" after saying it has a single turbo was interesting. Adding that it probably makes more hp than stock...

The 10k-mile montego blue FD did not meet its reserve with a final bid of just under $50k on BAT. Listing here: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1993-mazda-rx-7-151/

Nor did it deserve to, IMHO. Who lists a car with a $50k+ reserve and does not clean the effing floor mats? Not to mention that the paint had more swirl marks than an ice rink. It was crying out for a paint correction.

I've noticed that nearly all the recent FDs on BAT have been very poorly presented.

I would argue that if you are hoping to sell an FD for $40-$50k and above that a professional paint correction is a must - especially with the paint on these cars. (And a proper detailing should be a requirement filed under 'duh'.)

Yes it's going to cost $1k+ for a high-quality result - but I suspect sellers could recoup 5-10x that at auction time.

Beside the paint and other detailing needs ....I have seen many much higher mileage FD's with way cleaner undersides.....wonder if the car is a legit 10K ?

I'll give my $0.02. IMO and upon first glance, this is why modded cars are harder to sell. Even though it's a bit rough (not for the miles though) I still liked just about everything about it. Except when it came to the Half-bridge port, nope I'm out. From the videos looks like the cars runs pretty smooth. Even still, people who are selling single turbo cars need to provide a video showing AFRs, engine/exhaust temps at start up, idle, cruise, and WOT.

If you go through the pics carefully looking at bolt heads, the exhaust etc... you can tell it's legit. However I think this car has several issues or in other words hasn't been maintained very well other than good storage.

Someone had the undercoating junk applied which is why the underside looks a little off. If the interior was black I would have considered it. I love an MB base but then again I love them all.
