How to value your FD
Yup, PITA though the RX7 is, my qualifications for its replacement are pretty high:
1. Needs to match the straight line speed/acceleration of my car @ 15psi
2. Needs to handle as well, or have equal potential
3. Can't be physically any bigger than the FD
4. I don't want to see 20 of them at every Cars and Coffee
About the only thing I can even think of is a turbo Elise with another 150 hp, and I doubt that costs me much less in maintenance.

I've never tracked my FD, but the FD is by my perspective, the perfect sports car recipe. Looks, handling, exotic screamer of an engine, driver focused(but not so much so thats its punishing), cool interior, and was a passion project that should have never been built. I can't think of any car on this side of 6 figures that would compare.

Oddly, modern offerings seem to have divided themselves up into two groups in the $50-75k range:
1. Big Hot Wheels® styled brutes with obsene power. See Corvette, Mustang, Camaro, GTR
2. Nice compact sports cars with a lot to like, but without enough power. See: Cayman, 4C, Lotus
The FD balanced combo of traits doesn't exist at a reasonable price. And, it hit Antique status finally in Virginia. Though, speaking to the driveability/streetability of the Lotus, my car's at least as bad. No AC, no Stereo, race seats, 800lbs springs, twin plate clutch, and an open/single turbo exhaust.

I haven't tried the alpha or even ridden in one but I don't think there is a 4 cylinder engine made that can deal with a modded 13b or a 350 rwhp engine that rips from 5k to 8k.

Forget that sparkly mustard bottle. This is the best auction on the site: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1988-mazda-323-3/

I test drove an Alfa 4c this weekend... not as fast up top as my FD (400hp), but the first car I've driven that evoked the emotions of an FD so perfectly. Handles amazing, very quick, gorgeous in person, light, great noises, etc. More refined than an Elise in every way. More modern than the FD. Italian, carbon chassis...

I'm guessing this will end up in the high 40s. To me this is the most valuable FD listed so far on BAT assuming no stories. I've made my disdain clear for being a grown man driving a yellow car that doesn't have a Horse or Bull on the emblem. With that said, to me it's a no brainer the US CYMs will be the highest valued in the US market. I believe any 95 R2 will be a close second. I'll bring it up again, someone just paid $150k for a 98 Supra. I don't believe the FD values in the US will ever catch the Supra market but it will be interesting to see how high the Spirit Rs get in the future. I was clearly wrong how high the Japanese car market could go.
It takes a yellow R car to get past the big changes made on 94/95 cars
That said I'm paying the most for a 95 SSM R2 as are you and I don't think we are alone in our appreciation for this car

There was a recent MKIV Supra auction that ended today with RNM. I got a kick out of one of the comments.
"Wow, just crazy to me how BaT folks swoon over backwards for the svelte yet fragile RX-7 and show such little love for the king Supra. Time and time again MKIVs get bids less than eBay or private local sales."

TRUST THIS........it's the better car in every way shape and form that matter to collectors. Reliability and build quality don't mean anything to a collector or there is nothing practical about the collector market.
There is no way the fans who love the Supra can sustain the undeserved pricing. The Supra is simply not anywhere near the performance, quality, or collectibility of the FD. The only areas where it is better than the FD is in build quality and reliability in a stock to stock comparison. And if that mattered, used Camry's would be priced at $75,000.

LOL
NO doubt it's still a very cool car but it doesn't do it for me. BIG/HEAVY, interior is awful/typical 90s era and for this same reason the 300z which I also love isn't going to be a big collector. Just another cool car from the 90s. The FD is a cool car from the last century

The Dbag part is correct but the doesn't turn comment makes you look foolish. They are very capable on a road coarse as well. Most decide to build drag or roll race cars out of them simply because of the the entire drivetrain(6 speeds only) are near indestructible up to 800 wheel HP.

Record breaking brakes, the fastest of all the early 90s Japanese sports cars, Toyota reliability and quality. The engine is legendary and the factory 6 speed trans and rear diff are bulletproof up to 800 wheel hp. Guys have taken this car into the high 7s on the stock trans while driving the car to the track. It's also more rare, especially the turbo models in the US with half the number produced as FDs. Once again, you sound foolish saying it doesn't compare in performance, quality and collectibility. Actually you don't sound foolish, it truly doesn't compare to the FD, it surpasse it in all those categories. The FD has better looks and overall driving experience. I've owned both and I still prefer the FD. That doesn't change the facts about each car though. The Supra is the true collector of the 90s Japanese cars.
