The FD and other sports cars like it have no real age limit for drivers. Like others here, I see "older" gentlemen in 'Vettes and Vipers and they seem perfectly in place.
I'm now 43 and don't feel out of place in my FD at all.
For some reason, I DO think I would feel strange in a Eclipse. Other cars that seem to suit the 'ageless' category are 3000 GT, most BMWs, ANY Mercedes, Porsches, Supras....to name a few.

I have seen a few of your posts, and recall you being around 75 years old. That's my guess....75!! Not too old for an FD!!
Well, I'm not quite that old, but I am feeling better after reading your opinions

I did not answer the poll since it is INVALID as given!

Age is not the factor. Driving ability and health are what count.

I agree with this list, EXCEPT for the 3000GT, only cuz I've never liked that car

Chuck, I'm healthy enough to drive the car (most of the time), I'm just wondering at what age a man just doesn't "look" right in a well-prepped FD3S? Just today, I saw a couple older dudes (older than me with silver hair, and one guy was balding), riding around in a late-model Mustang GT convertible. I say those two guys are plain too old for a Mustang GT

This reminds of that one commercial with all the old people and the riced out hondas and stuff, I think it was a cell phone commercial hehe. WHen I am 90 years old I will be cruising in a car that will smoke anything around thats for sure.

"For privacy reasons I won't devulge my age, but I'm game for anyone willing to guess

Hint, I'm over 30"

If you're concerned that the car looks too youthful, you're not that old! My guess is 38.

I believe a stock FD looks far more sophisticated than the other Japanese sports cars (excluding the NSX).

Recently, I have noticed a lot more FDs with “ghetto” body addons. However, in time I think the high cost of ownership will save the FD from the high school crowd.

Repair costs should remain constant while the frequency is increasing, due to the car's age. Meanwhile book value continues to drop. In time the purchase price will be negligible compared to the cost of ownership.

I think this will push the car back into the hands of more mature owners who can afford the repair costs and see it as a relative bargain of a track car.

I tend to think it will mature in a manner similar to how the 92 M3 (e28?) has.

The bulk of the FD owners that I know are between 30 and 60 years old. Maybe we should setup a "mature" forum section. I think it would slot in nicely under the regional sections

you know your too old when you shrink and cant reach the pedals (anyone know how/why old people tend to shrink as they age?)

P.S. I know a guy which is 83 which owns a murcilago, it seriously takes him like 2-5 mins to get out of his car but he does say he enjoys his car and would not trade it for anything hehe.

Im 23, I've had my car for 6 years. No one bought it for me, So thats an attitude adjustment. Thats not to say I don't terrorize anyone in the passenger seat or push my car to its limits when its safe. I think most people are too young to handle an fd. No one drives it but my bro and I. So, I'd say anyone under 21 is probably not a good idea, and if you're an Og and you feel like you're starting to lose your senses, just step back and find someone who'll take care of it.

Well I am about 32 and haven't had my FD long at all. I do happen to think that old guys in Corvettes are in a mid-life crisis but then I figure I must be too and just grin. When I see older guys in muscle cars I figure they are re-living their youth. When I see older guys in Supras, 300ZXs, or RX7s I think they know something that most just don't understand, good quality fun.

I am only 28, does that mean I have to sell my FD in 2 years?

Seriously, you will feel better when we plan the Southern Indiana trip we've been shooting for.

If there is an age requirement someone better tell Carzy Jim, I don't think he got the memo.

i dont agree with the under 21 thing. I am 20 and going to buy an fd ...WITH MY OWN MONEY .... just to get things straight hahah anyways it really depends on the driver. If he/she has respect for what the car truely is and can do and whether or not he/she will dake road racing courses to understand how to use the car.
thats what i think.

That's damned close

I agree...I could see this playing out.

Yeah, I agree, so how is it that so many 19-21 year old males want/have an FD3S?

Yes, and using Jim LaBreck's logic, you'll need to get into a Viper Roadster next! You'll have 500 hp, 500 lb.ft out of 500 cubic inches. You won't have to worry about the "ankle-biters" for a LONG TIME

Too old? I would say that there is no age limit. I think that anyone should be able to have one as long as they are willing to maintain it.

age is a state of mind.....well until the body gives out. Crazy jim looks great in his car..it suits him.

I ask myself the same question as Im only a couple of years younger than you and my carbon fiber hood is making me feel pretty ricey. But, the fd is a timeless classic and when Im too old it'll be in my sun room some day like that car in Ferris Buelers day off. lol

you know what makes the older guys look funny in the sports cars? Those hats with the fold over that snaps to the brim. Those hats scare me as I sure as heck dont want to look like that.

Dude dont second guess yourself or you'll go mad. I almost did but I bought a bike instead! Your car suits you...btw. What car does suit our age bracket? a minivan? an esaclade with dvd player? a volvo (gasp). We are both d.i.n.k....enjoy the fruits of the work man!

For years i thought it was an audi a4 and although an s4 is calling my name......the fd is part of life for me now and the nice thing about being "a little seasoned" is I can afford to go to sevenstock or put on the Rotary Revolution and really fall in love with the rotary motor all over again.

Now when are we headed south again, your sprints rock!
