I'm 61.
Bought my FD in 93.

Cam Pettit still works on them and mine - 61.

 

Apparently, 58 is too old - cause that's the reason my car was sold to me and that's how old the previous owner was lol

I bought my FD from a 64 year old German lady...she was the first owner. I **** you not!

 

Ten years later.... I still feel the same way! and still loving my FD

 

My dad bought his first FD at 66, he is now 67 LOL. he also bought it from an older guy who was probably mid 50s who still races a sports racer at the club level with SCCA.

 

Been playing with FDs since I was just barely old enough to booze back in 1998...... still kickin' it old skool into Twenny Sixteen

 

That's right. I've been driving FD's off and on since the late 90's.
Now I'm 43 and I still love the car. It's timeless to me. Hope to own sports cars until they shovel dirt on me.

 

60 now. Bought when I was 47.

 

48 now and owned my fd for 13 yrs and don't plan on giving it up anytime soon, my 16yr old son has dibs on my fd but I tell him he'll have to wait until I die.

 

Turning 47 this year. Owned an FD since '96. Still not too old to own/drive. Sometimes too old to crawl all over a cement floor working on them!

Same here. I brought it in 96, I had an opportunity to buy one new at Manhattan Mazda in 93 when I had 13 FB's, at the time I did not care for the shape, until I race a kid in Paterson NJ that kick my *** on one of my 13 FB with nitrous, then the shape grew on me instantly.

Owner since 99 and 51 years young. Like Pete said I'm not too old to drive but turning wrenches is usually not on my to do list. In the past I worked on cars daily. Left shoulder is useless right now and can't even remember how I hurt it LOL. Back pain comes and goes. Ball of my foot is now causing enough pain that I had to stop my daily run/walk with my dog etc....

Getting old is a bitch but it's also a privilege or better than the alternative.

66, got the FD 9 years ago when 57 as a project for my youngest son and I. He drove it through High School and College, when he finally needed something bigger, the FD came back to me.

 

Right shoulder here...degeneration and arthritis. And as if I need things to whine about, I have a pencil eraser sized bullet in my right forearm that's starting to bother me. So I'm not even in the same universe with the guys ditching the PS for driving around town. Doubt there's any more DIY rebuilds in my future, probably hire it out. But I can still get my chubby-*** in and out of the FD without falling...so I'm good.

46 bought my first fd in 1994 brand new. will always own one.

 

I haven't posted in a while, but I love the sentiments found in this thread. Bought my GSL soon after getting married and having a "real" job in 1982, then a GXL in 1988, and finally the FD new in 1993 (at age 40). Finally parted with it this year (you can do the math). Too old now? No, just having fun with my old MG's (MGTD, MGA, and MGB). Turning the wrenches gets a little harder as you age, but I don't think you ever lose the joy of these cars once it's in your blood. Hope everyone has a great 2016!

 

35 here, just bought the FD in 2015. I was 13 when they were introduced in America, the FD and Z32 300ZX TT were dream cars for a poor teenager. At the time an '87 Nissan 200SX was the best that I could afford, but those cars never left me. They say never drive your heroes, but the FD definitely measures up.

 

34 here. Not many under 30 from the looks of it.

 

28, married with a baby. I feel old already but owning the car makes me feel young again!

 

I am 35 but I don't think you can really be too old to drive one, I guess when your driving abilities decline enough where you would be a danger for yourself and others...which means you are too old to have one.

I am 40 and just re entered the fd game after five years of being rotaryless. I have had rx7s since 16. Sadly, part of the reason I sold five years ago was that I had enough of the fast furious stigma. The community seemed to change to a bunch of little punks. Etc. I guess I made a mistake in that I let others effect my happiness. But I can't say that's entirely true. I also felt like it was hard to enjoy the car on the streets. Basically u have to break the law in a meaningful way when you want to push the car a little. And looking over your shoulder while doing that sort of ruins it. I guess if I didn't live in such a crowded area that would mean less.

I finally capitulated and bought another fd. I will have it forever. It's illogical to sell. Nothing south of $200k will put a smile on my face the way the fd does. The only thing that bugs me are the speed limits. I have done a few track events and i determined it just isn't for me. I am already a stressed out person. I fee like track events of twenty minutes of pedal to metal only stresses me out further. I will hit the 1/4 strip a few times and maybe do a track event here or there (once I think the car could handle it). But I will never be a track junky.

I've owned two fd before, but had to sell due to having kids and needing money, now I'm back with money and ready to buy agian.

I'm 29 and bought my fd 2 years ago. I definitely agree that you're never to old to have one (as long as you can fit in it) LOL
But the thing is that it is not practical at all and that soon becomes an issue if you don't have another car for a daily,
two cars are a luxury not everyone can afford to have.
The car serves no purpose aside from making you feel good either because it looks marvelous, or it goes fast, or both!
You cant take more than one passenger with you, cant drive it in the snow, you can't even go grocery shopping AND bring someone with you simultaneously. LOL


i still love it and want to have one forever!
