Im gonna do a triple turbo rotery build up in my 3r x its goina half a stock turbo fro quik spoul, then a t04g with balsy bearings for the good middle rpoms, and then a T100 milenum with nitrous juicers for redline who makes the lodest poop of valve i want the whooshinf and **** polish my turbo thngies how much i dont have money for waistgate so i use prefec cntroler instead but its creepy

SMACK! I swear half the posts look like this. They often don't even make sense due to some combination of poor writing/punctuation or the creative blending of story and question that always seem to be missing half the information a reader would need to answer. Oh crap! My rant about bad writing was a run-on sentence.

Since we're venting here, the thing that drives me the most nuts are the threads like this:

Roterhead: What are the rotor specs?

Roterhead: Hello, someone has to know this!!!

Roterhead: Screw you guys! Where are you when I need your help? I like my car but you guys are ******** for not responding.

Although you'll never be completely free of the laziness of newbies (and some not-so-newbies) when it comes to using the search feature or combining like topics, I think you could ban 7 or 8 key people and clean up a large percentage of the crap that's being posted almost immediately.

I just happen to have a list of names, if anyone's interested...

wow. talk about digging up a dead thread...
and funny how it has only gotten worse.
i personly feel it IS because of the price of the car. i know a few people localy (not members) who are just like the rest of the people jim and jehan are talking about. they are annoying. i know jehan met a couple of them the other day. they only have one because of the price and because it was in fast and furious. it really is sad.
i have a hard time helping people anymore. i cant bring myself to do it.
so far i am owed $200 for some of those
"help me figure out my problem and i will pay you $100" threads.
and it realy pisses me off when a person can listen and do exactly what you say, fix their problem and then in the same thread just go on to the next problem they are having. what happened to a simple "thanks" then move on to..."hey maybe you can help me with this problem also"
the 3rd gen section is total BS anymore. so hard to find anything helpfull.

i vote for a section not available to uneducated users.
DSMtalk has a section like this that you have to be asked to be a member of. i personaly feel this would help us in having intelegent conversations with eachother. posting to a target audience... maybe a serious thread wont get pushed 2 pages back while a thread asking "what kind of chicks you have gotten in the rx" stays up top.
with the lack of serious threads, sometimes you just get caught up in the BS that goes on and then become a contributer yourself.
what do any of you think about a section like this. it will not be acording to post counts, but according to the content you post.

It's a shame when a village aquires so many idiots. I have quit reading the forum for the most part because of this. I am considering selling my car since it seems since TFATF it gets too much attentions from adolescent boys, makes me feel that I am driving an ice cream truck or something.

Perhaps there should be a mechanism for rating the lack of intelligence of users. Somewhat like a poll feature that each user can vote once on any one other user, providing they have at least 100 posts of thier own. Only the user can see his own rating unless he wants it shown below the avatar. It seems this would allow users to discretely see that they are considered by many to be an idiot and _maybe_ think better when posting. Then maybe just maybe they will strive to be intelligent in posting so that they can drive up their rating instead of their post count.
Do look at me to write this feature, I despise php, I'm a jsp/servlet man

What would be the qualifications for access to a section like that?

I've been here for a little while, but I don't post all that often, because I don't have an FD (or any RX-7), and I don't have much technical knowledge about these cars, so I usually don't fell like I have much to contribute. Post counts mean nothing to me, so I don't feel the need to post ***** to get my numbers up so I'll look like a "veteran".

I hope you guys aren't lumping ALL newbies into the "stupid, disrespectful, lazy dumbass" category, because I'm at the point now where a lot of you once were. I've owned performance cars before, I had an '81 911, and then an '01 Z28, and I learned the hard way that when you spend -all- of your money on -purchasing- the car, it becomes very frustrating when you have no money for mods or even repairs. That's why I'm currently driving around in a '98 Nissan Sentra, and I've got a "fund" going for a future sportscar purchase. This time, I want to be able to purchase the car AND have a significant amount left over for mods and upgrades. To put it simply, I want to do it right. The car will most likely be an FD, because I've looked at -everything- that's available, and I always end up coming back to this one.

I do admit (and I agree with Jim Labreck, who I've communicated with before and has been nothing but helpful and pleasant) that a small number of newbies here (and maybe some "vets") are ruining it for the rest of us, and I hate to see that some of the elders on this board are starting to hate it because of that. I hope I'm not contributing to your disgust.

Anyway, I guess this is sort of an introduction, so hello! I'll do my best to be respectful and not ask dumbass questions. The reason I'm really here is to learn as much as I can about a car that I consider to be one of the most beautiful to ever come from any manufacturer since cars were invented.

As a side note, I would tend to think that the rising level of immaturity on this board is because the 3rd-gens are getting cheaper and cheaper, so younger people can afford them more easily. I see the same sorts of complaints about "missing the old days" on other forums as well. If you go to 3si.org, you'll see that they're talking about this same issue.

I agree with all of you

It is up to the moderators to actually use one of these ideas or one of their own to solve the problem or they can just leave it be like the featured car that has been up there for how long?? If you guys want I would be willing to take over the featured car part of the forum. I build web pages and computers. You could tell me how often you want it changed and approve of the cars before hand. DO SOMETHING
Make this forum classy like the car

I love searching when I have a problem. It's fun to try different combinations of words to try to find the thread I need (and I always do.) The old threads are so helpful and that is where I have learned almost everything I know. I don't post that much either now since the threads aren't quality.

Veterans please stick around!! There are a lot of young respectful and serious owners that you need to lead in the right direction.
I love the RX-7.

dont take offence to my suguestion. i understand where you are comming from. the basic forum is still helpfull to people who are less familiar with the car. but i think there is a point where some people get that the majority of people just can not be of much help. that is where i feel the target audience would come into play.

no we are not lumping ALL newbies into this catagory. there may be "newbies" to the board, who maybe "newbies" to computers in general. their first post may be more intelegent than some people's 4000 posts combined. newbies to rx7's are different. the majority of them (not lumping) may not even have one, or are just thick headed. i am not going to get into dedail, i think we all know what we are getting at.

the search function can be fun like snook said.

Maybe more useful than fun, but I get your point. I see "Use the damn search!" or something similar from vets all the time, so some of us are getting it.

I support the idea of segregating the posts of invite-only members who wish to have intelligent, related conversations, but with one modification. Only limit who can post to these areas and not who can view them. Part of what makes the forum a great resource [to me] is the fact that I can lurk about, search for what I need, weed through the minutia of crap, and not have to bother anyone unless I need to ask a something specific. To completely seclude the adults and their conversation from public view would really take away from the value of the forum.

..Maybe you could make users pass a spelling/grammar test before they could post.

..I don't suppose you could "stop counting" posts after a certain number or something... or at least for certain users. Might take the reward out of post whoring.

Just thinking aloud.

I think this extra section is a great idea. I have been thinking about the same thing myself. I actually mentioned something like this another forum member a few months ago. I was thinking more a 3rd gen tech section so I don't have to wade through all the crap that goes throught this forum. My major complaint was that whenever someone had a good question (hard to answer), they would have to bump it like 5 times per day until one of the more knowledgable people saw it.

I think this is a great idea, when I was in college and much lighter in the wallet the first turbo car I tinkered with was my third gen Supra. Even then those things were dirt cheap, I picked one up in excellent condition for just over 5k.. As a former member of the SOGI mail list I can attest that the exact same thing happened over there, over a period of a couple years the list just got junked up with immature and irrelevant posts. In response, a separate, invite only list was created by a few senior members. In my opinion it was a great success and prevented quite a few valuable members from leaving the group, which a couple had already done. On top of that everyone accepted to the list knew what was expected of them in terms of using bandwidth wisely, and the result was a new list with dedicated members interested solely in intelligent discussions and new ideas.

Now I hate to come off sounding like an elitist. If this does happen I believe that everyone should have the benefit of reading the posts at the least.

I agree as well.

Of course, when I joined the forum last year, the moderators (Johnny) were much more active in closing and deleting/moving worthless threads. I think if the 3rd gen section were more actively moderated, it would not be such a problem. (Eight months ago, that thread about "what kind of chicks can you pull" wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes. Although it was entertaining...)

I agree with this too.

I may be judged too ignorant to join in the conversation, but if I don't get to evesdrop, I won't get a chance to learn.

Hey, Actually thats my line , but yes I must agree this forum must become more stricter with the amount of newbies attacking the forum. And as much as I hate to say it but it is true, this forum is getting out of hand and we either need more mods or stricter mods to get the crap out. I'll admit I've posted and contributed to some stupid posts or threads in the past, but come on enough is enough.

I seriously think there should be a newbie forum section where they will only be allowed to post within the newbie section and louge until they reach like a reqiured amount of useful or sensable posts. Then after that they can have full access to the forum.

I hate to have the Forum resort to a seperate area, but maybe this needs to be done. As was said above, allowing new members to view but not post is a good idea.

We just need to make sure the selection process as to who can participate in this section is fair and not turn into a private 'friends only' club, or be based on post counts alone.

I'll vote for this.

Like I said, I could probably clean up 80-90% of the crap just by banning about 8 key people...

It's a shame that you'd have to resort to something like that, but some people just absolutely do not play well with others. More importantly, some people are merely here for their own amusement, at the expense of the forum, and some of them don't even have the common decency to own RX-7s...
