Is it worth it?

Alright guys I'm thinking about this TII. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...r=&cardist=238 . And I was wondering how much you think its worth. I live near Charlotte,NC and this car is in ATL so I cant just go check it out. Since its so far away I would have to go down there being almost sure i'm gonna get it. So is it even worth going down there? And if so how much so you think its worth? I've emailed him and will post more specifics such as mileage when I get them. Just so you know I have about $3400 to work with and if I dont have enough left over for a rebuild then it will probably be along time before it could get one being as I am currently an unemplyed junior in HS.

find out more about it. That add is very non-descript. Read the FAQ if you havent already about what to look for and go look at it and then check back here with your findings. Coming from experience (im a guy that has bought and sold a lot of 'project cars') id say be very wary if you have minimal income, as you can soon be over your head with a car that does not run right and requires a bunch of money to do so.

Can't tell much from the add.. If it is the actuall car in the pic then the body looks OK. You should try to do a cold start on the car, it should be easy to start, no vibration should come through to the steering wheel (or very little). Find out when the last rebuild was.

Also check out the FAQ (https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=181219)
What should I look for when buying a FC?

um.....2200 is a bit steap for that car. Seeing that word "project" car means that you are going to have to get ready to spend some money! Anyways a good rule of thumb is that a turboII driven by the average joe usually gets about 100k miles if taken care of maybe a bit more. If it where me I would hold on a while longer until something better came my way. Maybe spend the hole 3400 on a car that needs a lot less work. Oh yeah if you don't have a job yet get ready because you will need one to keep that sucker up and running

Ya I know I need a job but no one wants to hire me. I have read the faq on buying a TII. And arcknight as I said in my post its too far away just to go look at it and come back then think if i want to buy it. Also I have no intention of paying $2200 for it. I wish he would hurry up and email me back with the mileage. I also kinda doubt if the engine has ever been rebuilt although I did ask. I'm hoping I can talk him down to at most $1600. I'd like to think I could buy the car and get the engine rebuilt of $3400 but that may just be wishful thinking.

if it is too far away for you to drive just to check it out, get on the phone with the guy, and ask him every question posed by the faq. With non-descript adds, you will typically find some shadyness or desire to divert attention away from what really needs to be fixed.

Take a compression tester with you and find out how solid the motor is, (90ish being an acceptable reading), when you test drive it beat the snot out of it. If you find any of his answers to your FAQ related questions to be borderline or unacceptable (or just flat out lies) when you go for the car, lower the price or walk away. Its better to wait around for a good deal (and the FS forum here would be a good start) than get impatient and get a car you will be stuck with.

Do what I did. I had the chance to get a 87 last summer for 500 bucks with a blown engine, it eventually sold for 100 bucks. The engine was flooded, I did not feel like ******* with it. It was torn up.

Now I have a CLEAN 88. With great interior. Everything works great. And cool thing with this one was it came with back seats. And I found it on this forum in the for sale section.

I don't know if you wanted a turbo exactly, I wanted a turbo, but I found a n/a for only 1500 You will find your car soon.

I still wish I would've picked up that 87, at least I could've parted it out. Or gutted it completely out and put a 20b in that baby.

Good luck

Since you're 4 hour drive away, look in the SouthEast forum, I read something about Mazmart - dont' know if they were good guys or not.

yep, listen to the voices of experience! Wait on a car that is in good condition because even with a compression test it may have good compression today but tomorrow may be shot depending on the way it was driven and taken care of. You can find a damn good car for 3400. Look at

1. thepartstrader.com
2. this forum's for sale section
3. ebay (but usually over priced by the end of the auction).

The list goes on. If there is one thing I would have known the first time I bought an rx7 is unless it is unbelievably the best deal and you know it, look at your differant options. In other words don't by the first one that comes along!
