Why so slow?!
Why are the automatic S5's alot slower than other automatic cars? Starting from a stand still. Its so slow until about 20mph. Even if you push the pedal all the way down. Also, you cant do any brake stands. Why is that?
only auto rotary car I drove was twin turbocharged and not all that slow, so I can't help you here... but I bet it has looong gears and until you get the revs above 3500 it's just slow.

there is this weird lag with a auto rx-7 for both turbo and n/a. the 5speed makes taking off a breeze.

you probably think i suck at driving. i respect your opinion, but i can't deny the fact that my car has 150k miles (5 speed) and my brother's car has 87k miles (auto). just on that will tell you something about the cars.
we tried doing it from a stand still. my brother's auto is faster till i hit 2nd gear and i hit redline, then i pull away.
and did i say those are original miles, no rebuilds yet.

I'm not saying the auto is a power monster by any stretch.. and WILL typically be slower than the 5speed (if driven correctly of course... hehe).. but. You may have other problems that you haven't fixed. Also. The auto's in the FC's are terrible. You may have a slipping tranny. How many miles? Time for a tranny rebuild?

Its has about 145000 miles. The neutral rev then shifting doesnt work. I tried that already. It'll just burn out for one sec then thats it. I problably do have to rebuild it but are turbo trannys better than na trannys for automatic tranny?

ALso. Reving it then shifting is a surefire way to ruin your transmission. You are probably slipping...

ok..I know that they only make the auto turbos in Japan but I saw some on Ebay the other day and I was just wondering about it. Thanks you guys! By the way. How much do they cost to rebuild?
Lots.
You could do it yourself for relatively cheap - but it isn't an easy process. It'll cost 800-2000 to rebuild. I think the last auto rx-7 tranny rebuild I saw done was 1200.
Why go through that hassle when you could toss in a 5-speed for a couple hundred.

Are you comparing your car to other auto RX-7's? If so, are your auxiliary ports and VDI working properly? Is your transmission slipping or going out? Those will noticable slow it down. Are you comparing your car to other cars (not RX-7's) out there that also have automatic transmissions? It weighs close to 3000 lbs, is an automatic, and has 160 hp when it's working properly. The power to weight ratio isn't very high by current standards.
