where to mount sensor for aftermarket oil temp gauge?

where to mount sensor for aftermarket oil temp gauge?

where do i mount this thing. my oil filter pedestal has two 1/8NPT holes in it but the temp gauge is much larger...something like 3/8NPT. is it safe to just use an adapter? i searched but only found coolant temp sensor mounting location questions (they are the same sensor).

As long as it's an all metal adapter piece, there shouldn't be any issue. It's all about letting the heat transfer.

I tought oil temp sensor suppose to be mounted/installed on the oil pan??

I got an aftermarket oilpan (pineapple racing), and that is where the oil temp sensor at.

i know a lot of people replace the oil level sensor with a temp sender.

im pretty sure that not everyone with these gauges has an aftermarket oil pan. id rather not have to take mine off if at all possible.

There has been lots of discussion about where to mount water temp sensors/senders. The best location is on the water pump housing near the stock ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor. Drill and tap according to the threads on your sensor (usually 1/8" NPT). It is important this this sensor be installed before the thermostat. See the following topics for more information:

did you even read my post?

the sensor i had is 1/8NPT, it was just in some adapter fitting for some reason that i didnt notice. no further discussion necessary.
