Likely just normal condensation caused by driving your car. It does happen, especially if you make a lot of short trips. The white stuff is just a little bit of water mixing with the oil vapour.

If you're losing coolant, coolant mixed with oil will make the same white goo. If your coolant level isn't changing, leave it, its just normal condensation.

If you really like your rotaries, you know, like sexually, it could be something else entirely. If you think that might be the case, try tasting it. Let us know if it tastes salty.

awww jesus this is happening to me too. I mean I love my car.... and now that I have it I cant afford a girlfriend...

haha but seriously. I find this crap under there on my N/A all the time, I used to wipe it all out before but now I dont bother anymore, it ALWAYS comes back. I only use my car for long trips. (well around 20km minimum a day, and it was there after a spirited 250km drive, I hope it was up to opertaing temp by then lol!) My coolant level has been rock solid for a good 4 months now too, so its defineatly not that. Could it be the type of oil I am using? ( castrol GTX 10W30 right now) I'm not particularly worried about it, just curious.

Don't bother. It is NO indication of coolant seal problems. It happens even on brand new rebuilds.

If you're coolant system is fine now, then ignore it.

not only that but depending on the oil u use some have perifin in the oil and that will cause that to, as well as a restricted breather system (if we have a breather system)

but IMO it is prolly due to many short drives where u dont get the normal condensation dried up

One thing to check though is the purge valve. Testing instructions are in the FSM and Haynes. If it's stuck or clogged, the crankcase is not being purged of vapours (fuel, water, etc.).

ah, I believe that is my problem. When I take off the short peice of hose from the oil fill neck to the valve, I feel no vaccuum whatsoever at the nipple on the valve, including at 2000rpm and higher.
I took it off, and I could blow into that opening, and the air would come out the one beside it. And when pressure was applied to the very top nipple, I could not blow through it anymore. Neither the haynes or FSM says how the valve is supposed to operate correctly.

I'm 100% sure that the explanation of the valve is in the Haynes because I looked it up yesterday. From memory, you should be able to blow from one bottom nipple to the other if vacuum is applied to the top.

yeah y old S5 did the same thing, and smelled like fuel, guess the purge valve was the culprit now that you mention it.

Does the ctual oil have the milky residue? Because if it is IN the oil then it could mean that your coolant seal is bad and leaking coolant
