no KYB and GC please......if you're going to go with a GC setup, at least get shocks that are revalvable for higher spring rates!

KYB's and Racing Beat/Eibach Pro-kit/Tanabe/Tein/RS*R/Stock TII springs will work though.

I prefer the stock TII springs as they are stiff enough, plus they don't move you out of stock class autocrosses!

I've seen great results with KYB and GC... why do you say not?

Hell, I personally had amazing results with KYB AGX and stock springs.

I don't really see the problem in "frankenstein" shocks.

As long as they're correctly matched, it shouldn't be a huge deal. I've got ohlins in front and konis in the rear, but both pairs are dyno matched to each other, and are all valved for the spring rates that I have em at. No harm there.

As long as the spring rate is within the range of the shocks, it's ok, but what happens if you want to go to 450-500+ lbs spring rates? AGX's are underdamped for that level. Koni's and Bilstein's at least can be sent back to the factory for a simple revalve.

The defining point in my book for the GC setup is the ease in changing to different springs.

I'd at least get shocks from the same company, that way the force curve shape is consistent. But then I'm pretty nitpicky.

I didn't know Ohlins made a strut insert for the FC. I need to look into that.

I'd say AGX's are ok if that's the limit of suspension work that you want to do and you want spring rates within their capacity, but if you're racing or are apt to want to change things again in the future then Konis and Bilsteins are better choices.

I crewed for a GT3 race car with different dampers front and back, it was a step up from some old unknown stuff that had been on there for god knows how long. The driver was quite happy. I agree, not ideal, but perfectly workable.

For instance with our cars, we could use some fairly cheap universal dual adjustable shocks for the rear and save a bundle over using something to match the fancy front JRZ, Dynamic, or whatever struts.

and

if I ever get any 'spare cash' I'm gonna start looking into new shocks and springs.
My passenger rear's shot and god it's a bitch...

My AGXs have held up great after a year of Indiana's best rural gravel roads. The dampering adjustments are very noticable as well.
