djmtsu I'm not gonna be making it to deal's gap unfortunately... Car still won't be ready...

We're gonna start by making a prototype for the front and rear strut bars, a prototype harness bar, and some TID's... We'll have a confirmed price on them by the end of this week, but here are the estimates...

1. Triangulated front strut bar (no fuse box relocation required) $80

2. X-braced rear strut bar $80

3. TID (3" inlet/outlet, smooth bends, positions AFM straight forward) $75

4. Harness bar (spans the B-pillars, camera mount per request $20 extra) $70
definately in for TID!!

I don't see where a "cold air box" has much improvement over a TID with open filter... Enough air moves through the engine bay to keep it from getting heatsoaked, and being in a box that draws air from under the hood isn't any better than not being in one... The TID will position the filter behind the headlight anyways, so if you have the FTP's removed, or have a headlight cover duct, that should help somewhat with clean airflow...

When we make the true CAI, we'll be more concerned with eliminating heat all together...

I'd like to see a "cold air box" though cause I have some tubing set up from the front bumper to where the windshield washer resevoir used to be. And I want clean air going inside there. CAI's going close to the ground scare me cause of water getting in the filter.

Also the under belly trays seem awesome I'd like to see some of those.

let me know what you think 13b4me
those are some nice parts. Maybe trying to make some replicas of those with our own little touch will give you the best sellabilty. You could say like modled after mazdaspeed bar or something. Then all the ricers would be in as well and the real jdm madtyte yo crowd. either way im down for the rear strut bar. The hatch area definatly could use some stiffness.

Water getting into the filter isn't a problem... Unlike piston engines, rotary's can intake water without much ill effect...

either way i cant wait for that rear bar to come out? How are you going to do it? Build x amount then sell to the first x amount of people. Build per request? Just wondered about availablity.

We're going to build a prototype, which will go on my car to have it's picture taken... Then after it's approved by the community, we'll knock out a batch of 10 or so to start with...

I'll have to disagree with you there. An open filter is worse than the stock air box. And not much air flows through the FTP hole unless you're cutting up a whole bunch of metal to make a passage to your filter.

I agree... However, the stock airbox also has a snorkel to direct air through it... A "cold air box" won't see any advantages without a supply of fresh air... Hence us making a "true" cold air intake... The TID we're making is simply to eliminate the restrictive stock TID, not to pull air from outside... All I'm saying, is that a cold air box with nothing feeding it, is no better than a TID with a filter strapped to the end of it... It's not actually isolating anything when it's drawing from the same air source... If you want a CAI wait for the CAI to be designed...

ok, cool, I get what you're saying now. When I first looked at CAI stuff, I was thinking I could duct up air from below the filter (from the passenger's side of the front grille opening). Too lazy to do anything, so just kept the stock snorkel and rigged up a cardboard CAI box. Meh.

Yea there's been many times in the past, I've thought about integrating the stock snorkel to feed air, but unless you're running the stock fan, there's nowhere for the snorkel to sit... Me = Efan so that wouldn't work...

For you? But I don't like you anymore...

Haha you know I'm playin... Anyways, I don't think there would be much demand for those, other than you hardcore racer types... I could always make YOU a set for dirt cheap... Just not gonna make a big production out of it...

The good news is, we started shopping for materials today, and we hope to have a prototype of the front strut bar by this coming weekend... We need to get a hand feed before we weld any aluminum, because the aluminum core likes to bunch up in the line if it's being pushed rather than pulled... Steel is no problem right now though... I'll keep everyone posted, and once the proto is complete, I'll have some pics for everyone... That way at least you know we aren't bullshitting...

We will test fit them on my car for the pics, and the ever wonderful Claire has offered to test them on the track and give us some feedback on it...

i started one already, ill post up some pix if your interested...started on the rear one...front one is really going to be a bitch, since the stock hooks on the 89's are mounted almost a food back from the grille, and the rule says "easily accessable" which means sticking out from the car...

have you looked at the GCR? which class will you be racing in?
