What is the weight of a stock flywheel for N/A?

I already know the weight of a stock S4 turbo flywheel is 26 to 27 lbs.

I heard S5 is lighter...

But what about the weight of a S4 N/A?

IIRC, S4 N/A FWs are 22lbs.

For the record, that's Way Too Freekin Heavy.

what is the difference between say a 12lb alum vs a 12lb steel flywheel? Is it heat displacment? Which do you guys think is better? I heard somewhere not to use alum on the street, but i didnt see a clear reason as to why not.

Steel probadly doesn't flex as much and steel holds the heat in more.. I assume so..

Generally, steel flywheels are heavier for a given size. Aluminum flywheels are almost always lighter, but need a seperate steel friction surface, which must be replaced instead of turned, like you can do with a steel flywheel.

Um, you are aware that you can't just swap S4 flywheels with S5 flywheels, right?

Or that you can't just throw on a 12lb aftermarket flywheel without an automatic's counterweight?

Maybe you do, maybe you don't, I'm just post whoring.

Has anyone replaced their flywheel? How long did it take? Was it difficult to do? I was thinking about getting a light flywheel but I don't know who much work is involved in the switching.

I had a light steel flywheel put on at KDR, and it makes for very quick reving, but getting that son of a bitch going from a standstill, uphill, takes a good bit of practice. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

My stock s4 is 24lbs. I had a lighend one in the works but the machinist had his head up his *** and made the friction surface too close to the hub so the pressure plate wouldn't engage. (gotta do everything yourself if you want it done right)

Fortunately it was the parts car flywheel and I just threw it in the shed. I'm gonna go aluminum when I do the TII tranny swap anyways.

hear that liquid? I'm running a damn 24lb flywheel... I bet she'll really pull out of the hole with a lightweight one in there.

oh, and its really not hard at all as long as you have an impact wrench and the 2 1/8" socket. getting the taper lock loose can be tricky sometimes. Why don't we share some secrets on how we all get them loose? I use the BFH method to get her to pop off.
