n/a having problems. Starting idles...

Yo, as the title states the car takes ALONG time to turn on in the mornin (pretty cold) But i go into my moms car of the truck and Boom. On instantly

Whats taking my car SOoo long. Everyone says its been flooding. But when it DOES start there is normal amounts of smoke, just like normal exhaust

Another thing, when i'm driving in the city i will come to a light the engine will almost die (sometimes it does) I've cleand the BAC valve. Didn't do much. Any ideas?!

thanks alot

Check the condition of the battery

If the battery is old or has been recharged a few times or is just bad, the alt will be strained. When you stop at light, the stop lights consumes about 15 amps, so that might put too much strain on the alt which in turn puts too much strain on the engine which at idle has little torque to begin with.

So, to make it short, make sure your charging system is up to par (battery, alt, and of course cable connections between the 2)

If this check out ok, then it's probably the bac system that is playing a trick on you. Just follow the troubleshooting procedure found in FSM (see www.fc3s.org under tech->manuals, get part about fuel and emissions).
To make it short, if you unplug the BAC at idle, the rpm should drop.
if this does not happen, your bac or ecu could be malfunctioning or your idle is not set correctly, usually relying on throttle plate opening rather than bac system

Last but not least, your engine could be a little tired, that is, it cannot handle the load from the alt at idle, but I doubt that. You could check your vacuum reading at idle and see if the engine is healthy. You could also do a compression test to make sure the engine is still good.

Hope this helps,

Yeah, it does thanks! I never thought of checking the battery. It has been strained quite a few times. Run dead quite a few times. I just got the alternator rebuilt

Thanks, i'll see what i can do!

hmm, well i know the engine is fine. It feels strong in almost every aspect. The battery- the car still does not want to start. Even when i have the batery charger connected. It has to be the BAC or the plates. Thanks

I always blame my problems on my TPS. Have you checked that yet?

Not sure it is good idea to try to start a car with a charger on, dunno, but it does not sound right. I don't think a charger has enough cranking power to start a car unless it was designed to do so (should say on the box).

About the battery, if it has been strained a few times, you should really invest in a new one especially if your alt is pretty new. Everytime you strain a battery, it gets weaker.

I assume your fuel pressure, timing, spark plugs, TPS, etc are ok since, from what I can tell, you have no problem starting in warmer weather, RIGHT ??

You may want to disconnect your cold-start assist feed if you still have it. It was supposed to help start cars in cold weather by injecting some anti-freeze in the chambers to help compression, but dealers were asked to remove it if car was serviced.

I still think it's your battery that's the culprit, but who knows.
