What type of oil to use?

Hmmm... First off, 1990 rx7 turbo II

I will driving my car pretty hard on the street so something compatible. Anyone got any recommended brand names and weights? Ive heard i should use 20w50 in the summer and 10w30 in the winter.... also ive herd many good things about RB royal purple oil... does it really make horsepower gains? any information would be helpful thanks

Castrol GTX 20w50 (the red cap) is arguably "the standard"... well, it's recommended by mazdatrix anyway. 10w30 wouldn't be a bad idea for wintertime, since (i'm guessing) it gets extremely cold where you are. here's a repost of a pic I saw on the forum... degrees in fahrenheit added by yours truly

if you're wondering about synthetic oils check this out: http://mazdatrix.com/FAQ/SYNTHETC.HTM

I use the red cap.

I agree, castrol 20-50 works best, just check how thin the oil gets after a couple thousand miles. Our motors beat the hell out of oil, lol.

if I read that right I have to say that is about the best thing I have heard in the syn vs dino juice oil topic (not to start the war here) but saying that as NOT ALL burn clean is leaving the door open rather then saying no don't do it.
it seems they are saying no because they don't know and would rather stick with something tried and true but the chance might be there that they might work.

right now have been giving mobile 1 a chance and I like so far but not sure if I want to stick with it.... oil is expensive and while I have the money might stay but might cause I'm a cheapo go back to GTX

but most ppl here would use castrol GTX 20w-50 I think

myself use either 20w-50 or 10w-30 but most would say against the 10w-30 because it breaks down to easily
might be has worked fine for me for a while though
but again that is your own judgement

for cold weather I was using 5w-20 but the temps never went above like 30 degrees here in the winter so it worked just fine

also check this out
http://www.vtr.org/maintain/oil-overview.html
has a little bit of info on oils for you if you want it

and another site that I found though don't know how good the info is there is quite a bit of info there
