water pump problems!!
ok i just got a 87 turbo II from a guy in atl. what my prob is he sold it to me needing some work. he said it had been sittin for about 4 months. and he started it up a few times to let it run. the waterpump was leakin in it and he had putted it up for sale. i get it and i replace with another turbo II pump i had layin around. it is the pump itself. (not the housing). and i use to blue rtv for a gasket. cause i heard u cant buy a gasket separate. well i put it back on and there is alittle bit of a gasket let on the new pump so i take alittle off and put it on and put some blue rtv around the edges of it. put in the bolts and it starts leaking water from the bottom of the pump right where the center bottom screw is. can i have 2 bad pumps? it worked on the car before. whats the chance of the housing being bad. and does just the little bit left over gasket on the new (used) pump affect on how it is tighten down causing it to leak. anyone know any tricks?? thanks

you left some of the gasket still there??? you should have cleaned it all off.
can you tell if it's leaking from the gasket, or the little hole in the bottom of the pump?
you should really pull the whole housing off aswell. you will end up with leaks between the engine and water pump housing if you don't. cause that gasket gets loosened when you remove the pump.

Mine looked like a leak at the bottom, but was actually comming from a pin sized hole in the back side of the aluminum housing. When I took it off, I discovered some more internal erosion problems. I fixed them all with "Bondo Marine Epoxy Putty Stick". It was still holding a year later when I sold the car.
