Wastegate Porting Costs?
Basically i'm afraid of screwing something up when porting my wastegate so i'm having a place do it for me. I'm all about bolting stuff on, but when it comes to shaving away metal, I think i'll leave it up to someone who knows more of what they are doing....only problem is, this place may or may not...
Basically I called up a few places, and one speed performance type place forwarded me to the machine shop guy they use, and he said he's never done it before, but he wanted to take a look at it to see what he can do. They are also going to be doing all the removing of the turbo and everything as well, so how much do you think it would come out to? I think i'm going to just give them one of the writeups with pictures to let them know exactly what I want done with it. Its an S5 thats only going to need porting to the stock flapper, so no new flapper needs to be put on or anything.

maybe 2.5 or 3 hrs of labor?
1hr pulling the turbo
30 min or 1hr for porting
1hr putting the turbo back on
My guess.
My advice would be to pull the turbo yourself and let them port it.
Here's a walkthrough: http://www.teamfc3s.org/forum/showth...&threadid=8341

I'd rather not have to deal with it, last time I just needed to take the airpump off to secure the TID on at the turbo, it was a huge hassle. They said they would take it out and look at it for free, then tell me if they could do it or not based on what they saw, then charge me labor on putting it back in plus a few extra bucks for taking it out if I did decide to go through with it with them.

$400? Jesus thats a lot. Its an S5 but everyone still suggests porting it to the stock flapper on it. I was hoping around $200 max. Depending on what they say, I might either just find someone to help me out with it, or do it to the best of my abilities myself, because there's no way in hell i'd pay $400 for it.

that's my mechanic....it might be cheaper somewhere else........I want to do this soon....I have crept a bit higher than 13 psi when my Boost controller was set to 11........ he is expensive...$89/hour for regular jobs.....back before I knew anything about the 7 I paid 4K for a factory rebuild/ labor and 1 year-unlimited-mile warranty. I would not do that now........but i still have my motor.......i think about 16K miles on it.....maybe less...now I just have to finish my GTUsII project.......

I thought about removing it and shipping it somewhere to get it done cheap, but I don't know how I feel about shipping my turbo out to some random person, heh.
Also the downtime on that would be pretty bad and I drive this car everywhere. The best thing would be for someone to come over to my house and help me out with getting everything done. I'd pay them for the trouble and all as well. I guess i'll go advertise that on the NE Region section of the forum.

First of all.. Find a Rotary tuner that has done this type of port job. Not some some machine shop guy that hasn't done it before. Don't let someone foul up your wastegate just to save some money.. Do it right the first time or don't do it at all.
Next, why are you porting your wastegate?

ill port it for you for $50, that includes the price for shipping the turbine housing back to you. i ported the **** out of mine, boost holds at 4-5 psi with 3" TID almost straight into turbo, 3" racing beat turboback, and ported and polished compressor inlet and outlet. boost does go up to about 7 psi under heavy load in 4th though, but thats as big as i can get it with the stock flapper. i use a long shank carbide bit, so i enlarge the entire length of the wastegate passeges. this is on a S5 turbo though.

Its a pretty simple job, just requires tools which they are sure to have, and i'm sure a machine shop guy can figure out how to port something. I'm porting it up to the stock flapper since i'm going to have an A'pexi intake, eventually a better flowing TID, and a 3" turboback.
