Value of a 1990 GTU
Trying to help my family find my little sister a car and she has always loved my 91 convertible.
I ran across a 1990 GTU with 'supposedly' an Atkins engine put in it with only 13K miles on it, and it does seem to drive perfect except a little rough as it needs a new set of shocks, but I know Tokicos are always in reach. Interior I would give a 9 and exterior an 8 since the paint isn't perfect and some trim is a lil messed up....no rust really...a couple chips have surface rust but that's about it. It does need new shocks but I know getting some Tokico blues would be easy and cheap.
The guy is asking 3,900 which seems reasonable to me, especially since the new engine costs 3000 to get and install and he says he has the receipts, though I haven't actually looked at them
So I was just wondering what other people thought.....wish I would have been smart enough to take some pictures....my freaking camera was sitting in my passenger seat when I was there
Thank you

thx guys for your opinions, it also has a nice straight dual exhaust on it however, the guy was told it was a borla exhaust although he told me he was never able to find borla written on it, still seems like a nice exhaust....sounds real nice without being too loud...most of the time

I think that price is a little on the high side myself, having owned a '90 GTU. For that price the seller better be able to get you full documentation on the rebuilt motor.
On the other hand, if you really want an RX-7 and they're hard to find in your area, it might be worth it to you to pay a little extra than the going rate for the car if it is nice enough. If it's really clean, you're probably overpaying by no more than $1000 which isn't that big of a deal if you have the money and really like the car.
By the way, if it is a Borla exhaust, the mufflers will have "Borla" embossed in pretty large logos. Also, they have a distinct exhaust tip design with concentric tubes with four little fins. It's a nice exhaust; I put one on my old '90 GTU too.

Without seeing and examining the car in person, it is impossible to say what it's worth. The worth of any car that age depends primarily on it's condition.
For example, here's a '90 GTU w/original engine w/excellent compression, 72K miles, original paint in great condition, many upgrades including suspension, intake, drivetrain, exhaust, rollbar, 5-point harnesses, and more. The KBB value on such a car is probably less than $4K, but you couldn't buy the car for that price.
On the other hand, if the car is bone stock, cruddy engine compartment, high mileage, some rust, poor paint, no mods it is probably worth much less than the KBB value.
