Turbo?

well i thought i would post something on a turbo set up for my 86 NA..i want to turbo it and was searching around and come to find out a turbo NA isnt as bad as some of you may thought...on nopistons.com, one of the members said that you can run a NA at like 5-6lbs and be "safe".....my question is how do u get the boost that low if your WG is set at like 8...my plans were to run like 3lbs....if you would leave me your .02 that would be great.

oh yeah on 5psi you can expect about 220rwhp or atleast thats what one of the members was claiming!

I wouldn't do any boost at the higher n/a compression ratio without additional fuel. As for boost, you're good to 10+psi with a strong motor.

You make more hp because you're starting off with higher compression than a turbo II. As long as you can dump enough fuel and retard timing to prevent detonation you'll make more hp than a turbo II with better bottom end and off-boost drivability.

yeah if you do a search you'll find that many people have done this and that it is not as bad as many people belive. I don't see you running 3 psi with the stock wastegate tho it will probably want to boost more than that and the motor can handle it i'd go with like 6 psi and it should be pretty nasty. you might also want to consider a tii tranny and rear for some reason many people think the na is fine but i've broken na driveline parts on my stock port na

i was under the asumption the 13b has like 9:1 CR which isnt that bad for boost..i wouldnt really need to swap out driveline parts would i...as for the turbo manifold i was thinkin of extending out a little bit...do i NEED to use the tii IM. If i were to run 3-4psi i would need an externaly WG turbo right because ive never seen a stock WG set at anything lower that 7...

yeah, you couldn't really make the stock wasteagate open at 3psi.

to open the stock wastegate, all you would have to do is a little custom fabbing with a very low pressure actuator, instead of the stock one

I have been thinking about rebuilding my Tii block with S5 na rotors, because we all know that the stock turbo doesnt hold boost till redline, (drops to like 6psi)
so i wouldnt have to upgrade my trubo, it would hold 6psi all the way, and with higher cr wouldnt the spool time be even quicker? Just my thoughts any of it even worth persuing?

The stock wastegate opens at 6psi. Unless you have an upgraded clutch (and I don't just mean an act s/s replacement for your n/a), you're just going to burn the thing out at even 5psi. 220rwhp is more than likely not going to happen at only 5psi. You will most definatly want to swap out the injectors for AT LEAST a tII's 550's (and the fuel pump while you're at it). It's nothing special or difficult, but people seem to have an 'awe' inspired idea about the whole thing.

No, the 86-88 non turbo has 9.4:1 for compression, not 9:1
