MO Trying to plan ahead for a turbo

Just trying to plan ahead for a turbo set up next summer; I'd just like to know what everyone's running. I'm looking for a fat *** turbo, just something decent sized. any help is appreciated thanks.

You need to ask more specific questions, but mostly you need to use this.

What is your HP goal?

This site will give you a "general idea" on a set-up. -> FC3S Pro: From Mild to Wild Power

And here is the Single Turbo FAQ link.

No HP goal yet, I literally just decided to slap a turbo on it yesterday. So I'm giving myself some time to learn and make the ridght decisions.

If you don't have an HP goal, then there is no help that can be provided. Maybe do some reading in the Single Turbo forum?

My suggestion is that 300 RWHP in a 2nd gen is a very fun car, quite quick and be easily achieved by bolt ons.

Do you have a TII or an NA?

the biggest set of advise anyone can give is PLAN FOR THE UNEXPECTED. you expect to spend only 1k? plan for 2k.

getting a jdm or used engine? plan on it blowing up.

start with a low milage turbo swap of the same year if you can. that way you can drop it in, change a handfull of bits, and you will be good.

Check the FAQ under "TII swap" or "Can I install the turbo engine".

Yes, you can turbocharge the NA but I wouldn't recommend doing so based on the questions you have asked.

I think it's one of those 'if you have to ask you shouldn't be doing it' things. One must be comfortable with basic-medium fabrication (welding/grinding/cutting) tasks, comfortable with moderate, possibly extensive rewiring or modification of the harness, and one must be comfortable with the tuning of a standalone EMS.

Lots of info here if you search. Things to take into consideration:

Budget?
T2 swap or turbo n/a?
Timeline?
Which ecu is for you and your tuner?
Hidden costs? (Fuel system, heat shielding, poor wiring harness)

Recording your costs and future costs in a spreadsheet is very helpful, and may change the route you choose. All the little things add up.

Which is why I'm planning year and a half ahead, so that I can learn all that I'll need when it comes around.

Thanks for the info. I'm about to dive into the learning process.

Not to be rude but you can dive into the learning process all you want but if your just reading posts and not hands on learning you will never really learn properly. Reading how to install a jdm turbo engine or making your na to turbo is a different story then actually doing it. Not saying your not capable but some people just arent mechanically inclined so be prepared for possible headaches and posting threads for help.
