TII Hood on NA FC: Rice or Not?

Yo,

Sorry fellas, but I still say it's Rice. You're pretending to be something you're not.

Have you noticed how everyone is calling a TII hood, well...a TII hood? They're not calling it a turbo hood, or a vented hood, it's a TII hood. It came on one model of FC, suprisingly called the Turbo II, or TII for short.

So you have a distinctive styling element in the offset hoodscoop, on the highest performance model of the FC. When you stick that styling element on a lower performance model, you get Rice. Yep, trying to pretend to be something you're not, especially when it comes to making your car look like another, more expensive, faster car.

Like the Supra big wing and big tip? Stick it on your Accord.

Like the Z3 fender gills? Stick it on your Civic.

Like the Altezza tailights? Stick it on your Prelude.

Like the TII hood? Stick it on your NA.

KS
1989 GTUs "Be proud of your car, don't bite other's style."

PS: Let's put it to a vote. *grin*

doesn't it also provide negative cooling for the engine bay? (if put in an n/a)

i guess a main reason for putting it on is its lighter since some n/a cars were equipped with the heavy hood (like my n/a)...but yeah, i'm not really down with it...

That's what I figure, higher pressure in the engine bay which has a negative effect since it isn't really helping much.

I dont know if this is correct, but if i remember correctly. Air dont flow in the stock hood scoop above like 65mph because of the way aerodynamic works. Can someone back me up on this?

All I remmeber from my t2 hood on my NA was a lot of whiny noise at speed

I have a TII hood on my n/a, but it is only because I ruined my old hood, and it was the closest/cheapest hood I could find. It was also the same color as my car. I prefer the n/a hood, and I would never have done this had I not destroyed the old one. It is not rice, but I really don't think it a great idea to do this either.

Really? What color? My TII hood is red, w/ 2 white stripes. It is in ok condition, some scratches and dings, but hell, it is aluminum!

hmmm, this could work out nicely, I'm going to get my car painted when its finished, my hood has a few spots where the paint has chipped away, but other than that no dings/dents. The padding underneath it is pretty much MIA, but thats about all thats wrong with it.

I think it's rice, but generally the ricers with n/as aren't smart enough to get a TII hood.
I saw 2 of them with (bad quality) TURBO stickers on the side, but no TII hood!

If you want a T2 then Buy one instead of just the hood.

There is no weight bonus, the NA aluminum hood is lighter.

I like stock looking cars, and the definition of rice IMO is pretending to have something on your car that you don't.
So, lets see if I understand what you are trying to say: In your opinion a T2 hood is not rice, so would you also agree that a turbo sticker would be OK? How about a type R sticker????

Rice= A aftermarket part that has no performance value.
Customizing= Your own indiviual taste.

It all depends are you going for. looks with a T2 hood? Or extra cooling on a N/A? T2 hoods on T2s do a very poor job of suppling air to the intercooler. A N/A cooling with a T2 hood would be marginal at best. If you feel like you'll gain an extra 15hp on your N/A from a T2 hood then be my guest.

But, from earlier posts on the subject, the T2 hood actually makes it worse on the NA due to the higher temp in the engine bay because of too high of pressure.

So your saying that when a tII goes to a fmic that its not benificial for them to keep the hoods because then the pressure isnt right or whatever...

I believe so, at least thats what about 30 other people have said in the past, and it makes sense too. I know that once I get a FMIC i'm going to put back on a NA hood. I might even stick with the NA hood even with the SMIC, I like the look of being a sleeper.

gee hard to fake a turbo modem with GXL painted on my car......

trying to pretend your something your not? whatever...... i pretend nothing, id use a lighter hood that looks cool.

must a shortage of V8 7's around since since some people are slamming on people whod like to use a T2 hood

why dont you just think about that before slamming people. dont see much soliderity in 7 owners in this thread thats for sure

cant wait for a turbo hood to come my way.....

get over it!

unless you get it because it's light (isn't there an aluminum N/A hood?) then its rice. If you get it cause it "makes it look cool" then its no different than you putting a "DOHC VTEC" sticker on your stock Civic DX.

You are so full of it...i hope your tII is bone stock...because if you put one thing on your car to make it look better whether it be dice hanging from your window or a dress up kit for motor then you are a ricer...Oh and what about those guys that put a 3 rotor in there rx-7 what are they trying to be like...this is not a cosmo...and what about the tII that trade in there motors for jspec motors...are they trying to fool us into thinking they imported that car? so Whatever!
