to those with e-fans.

just curious to see how long your fan stays on for when you take out the keys? (assumming it's hooked to a thermostat, and not your ign)

got mine going today. perma cool fan with a black magic thermostat in the upper rad hose. stays on for like 10 mins gona kill my battery LOL

Why dont you hook it up to the ignition. Its not helping anything by cooling the coolant thats sitting in the radiator.

I love the idea of it staying on. just not for that long. it's cooling down the whole engine bay, not just the water sitting in the rad.

Mine stays on for 10 to 15 minutes, depending on how hot it is outside. I have never had a problem with it draining the battery.

Want another idea for a little more cooling? Remove the rubber seal from body under the back of the hood. If you do, it lets hot air out the back of the hood.

I thought about that. but won't it let water drain into the engine bay?

I'll be working on a reverse hood scoop soon

oh jeah,also-what are your avarage water temps?hi-lo?i was freaking out a bit,as mine seemed to be a somewhat high.but, after talking to rob at pineapple, turns out,as i am running evans coolant, they have seen higher water temps in theyr race cars with it,as it is supposed to absorb heat much better then water/antifreeze.combined with my griffin rad.,wich, once again acording to rob, will not promote airflow as well due to its thickness,my fan ends up running a whole lot,and i basically run at whatever temp i set the thermostat at[even at 70+mph][190-195* so far].i have yet to back off the thermostat and see how hot things will get.rob told me i could very safely run at 220*,they have had theyr race car over 260* w/o any engine damage/powerloss/exesive wear, running the evans coolant.anyone have any input?where's your cars run at with a elec. fan?thanks

260! wtf won't the end plates warp?

Btw, Wan, thanks to convection, if you run air across the rad with the pump not moving, new hot water will percolate up through the cooling system and make its way to the rad. Sure it's not as good as having the pump running, but it helps. Lots of cars with e-fans stock keep running after shutdown if needed, including the 3rd gen.

i dont know.would have thought so myself,so just take it as something someone sayd that someone told'em.however, rob does have a lot of expirience.he,of course, does not recomend running at those temps,he mostly told me 'couse i expressed a lot of concern about running at 220*

I'd wouldn't want it to run more than 3-5 minutes.
Its time to either install a timer, or adjust sensor placement.
Also, it might be time to check out the rest of the cooling system.
How's your e-fan suppose to cool a running engine when its on 10 minutes with an off engine?
I understand that there will be some heatsoak but I think that 10 minutes is a little excessive.

I had mine hard wired to the battery oh a thermostat, now i just have it on a 40amp relay off of the battery. I too liked the idea of the fan cooling the engine, but, i was affraid of it draining my battery, though it never did.

If you take a look at it closely, theres not reall yany way for water to come in that way. Its in front of the vented part where the windshield wipers are, and the rainjust goes into there and drains out. Take a look, it wont go into the engien bay. And I can actually feel air coming out of there when my fans on.

hmm I'll have to take a better look. I've seen a 3rd gen do it. and he stuck a cork or something under the middle of the hood to bow it open more.

it actually is better for the coolant to cool a bit when the car is off, if i recall correctly third gens had a problem where you would turn the car off in hot weather and the fan would shut off and people would walk back to a car on fire because the heat would make the fuel ignite...our cars dont have that problem but it is safer for it to cool a bit, if the battery drains from it, either your battery is not fully charged or you need a new one
