Question T2 question... need quick answer

I am about to buy a s4 t2 stock. the engine has the rear plate crack.

the guy says coolant is going in the engine and oil is coming out from the crack. i need an advise. is it a good deal or not? the link below is the ad3

i asked him if the engine was overheated he said no. also asked if they boosted the engine way past its capabilities and he said no.

The thing about jdm engines are that sometimes you spend 1500 and when they arrive they are bad. Happened to uncle

Happened to me... I went with some shitty import company. If you want a JDM 13BT, talk to Japan2LA. He is legit.

For that price ($750) you should get a chassis with it.

I would walk away from the deal. A 'cracked' iron and a blown coolant seal means the motor has been over heated and over boosted. You would have to completely replace the iron and do a full rebuild of the engine.

^This. Absolutely.

Given your situation, I wouldn't wanna take the chance. If you're burning coolant, a compression test probably wont tell you much of anything about the state of the internal hard parts, rotors, and housings. And even if you assumed everything is in good shape, you'll still spend another half-G to replace the gaskets and coolant seals regardless of that. Plus the cost of another usable rear plate.

That is still too high. There are way better deals out there. And if not... There are more to come. You can get a blown 13BT in a TII chassis for that price. That would even include the complete TII drivetrain!

so you'd spend $750 on one that you KNOW is bad? i can do better than that! send me $350, and i'll make sure you won't have a bad engine taking up space in your garage....

That engine you are posting about would make a great Boat anchor,or worm storage unit.
Get a hold of Japan2LA on forum by PM.He will sell you a decent engine.

cut him some slack, there is ~$500 worth of parts on/in that motor. i wouldn't spend $750 on it though and i try to buy low...

yes he is ignorant or lying about overboosting it.

at LEAST $300 in internal parts value assuming even half the motor is decent.
working turbo and manifold will cost you at least a bill
turbo injectors another bill
intake manifold and other misc are easily worth another bill

so stop bashing the seller, sheesh. sometimes it bothers me how cheap people can be in this community, turbo motors are NOT that easy to find. he would have an easier time selling it if he were to just break it open and sell off the pieces induvidually. it bothers me because i know i'm wasting my time looking at parts for people and i give them a price i hear ******* crickets.

next i'm threatening to work on hondas, even they dump more money into their cars than most here do...

and yes, i generally do pay AT LEAST $250 for most turbo SHORT BLOCK core motors that at least give some sign of not being completely toasted. the known here is that the rear iron is junk which found used is about $100. remember people it is a LONG BLOCK, if you need all those other parts you would be spending the extra money anyways!

and by the way, it looks like a series 5 not an '88 series 4 engine which makes it even better.
