I know the thermostat fits (because I'm using one) but not sure about the housing.

I have one of each, but I never compared them. By memory, I don't think it will.

I need to replace my tstat housing on my s5 and could get my hands on a fd one fast insted of waiting for the fc one. If it could be made to fit I could do that too. I'm just not sure how close they are

If this...

...is the correct part, then no, it wouldn't come close to working.

What happened to your origional one? You can take a wire brush and take off teh corrosion if that is what your concern is. Unless you cracked yours

not even remotely close to fitting. completely and utterly different in every way, shape and form.

order the aluminum one from mazdatrix, takes about 2-3 days to get it versus wasting time trying to make something work.

So, the aluminum housing lasted but a fraction of the time the "crappy plastic" OEM part did?
I sense a disturbance in The Force.

Honestly I want to see a picture of this water neck you "blew a chunk" out of... for curiosity's sake as im trying to wrap my head around the prospect of putting enough stress or pressure on the cooling system to blow apart a cast aluminum part.

Wow.... thats a huuuuuge effing chunk just blown off...

Did you buy that part new or used? I mean the way it seems to have kaboomed off indicates a bad casting. Personally I would just switch to a S4 waterpump/housing/neck and not have to worry about spending out the *** for an aftermarket neck.

I'm pretty broke and can't afford all that right now. So I'm just buying a used one to get me by until I got the money for all the s4 stuff

the funny one is the FD AST's. the aftermarket ones fail really quick, its usually a QC thing, they are built so badly, they barely worked in the first place.

hmm, $23 for a used plastic piece that will maybe last a few years or the aluminum one which should outlast the car.. decisions decisions.

if you blew up the aluminum one i would have contacted mazdatrix and they likely would have sent you a new one with an apology.

true that but in that case those AST replacements are made with cheap materials, i have yet to see an AST that is worth it's weight in salt just in the name of saving $10 in materials for decent thickness wall tubing and plate materials. problem is they always warp at the neck because they're flimsy.

well, it's just made of cast aluminum. it's not as difficult as you would think to get impurities into the mix if you aren't careful. cast parts fail more regularly than we would like to think if the people casting the parts are doing it on a friday afternoon mentality.
