Hold the afm door open with a screw driver and start it.

No its the device that sits inline between the TB and the air filter. It measures the airflow into the engine.

Don't take this the wrong way, but how did you port an engine and attempt a swap and not know what the AFM is?

Freshly rebuilt engines (especially ported ones) have trouble creating vacuum during the initial start up. The vacuum is what pulls your AFM door open to allow air into the engine. By having a buddy open the door a little and you cranking the engine, you are helping it get the air it needs to run. This may not solve your problem but it is a typical issue with most rebuilds. After a little while of idling you probably won't need to touch the AFM door because the seals will have mated with the housings, therebye creating enough compression.

Are you using an s4 or s5 afm? Also what ecu and wiring harness do you have? Also is the afm plugged in?

yea the reason it was so diffecult its because the monster ported 13b i got was not only a 13b it had the housings from a 12a (dont ask y) so it F*up a few things like where the motors mounds will go and a few vacumes...and ive never done a swap
b 4...
and the worse thing is that th ere no shop in my area that work on fcs so im onmy own
