Hold the afm door open with a screw driver and start it.

"Air Flow Meter"

is that the screw at the top of the trottle body?

dot_txt 05-12-08 06:06 PM

No its the device that sits inline between the TB and the air filter. It measures the airflow into the engine.

Don't take this the wrong way, but how did you port an engine and attempt a swap and not know what the AFM is?

89rx7vert 05-13-08 12:23 AM

oh ok i know wut it is now..
and i did not pot it my self i bought it ported and swaping is basic take apart and put back together
The thing is im not putting the smog or a/c back on so theres a few vacumes im not sure about i took pics but not good enough..

89rx7vert 05-13-08 12:42 AM

oh one more thing by openning the afm wut im i doing?

mrt0mjones 05-13-08 06:48 AM

Really

Freshly rebuilt engines (especially ported ones) have trouble creating vacuum during the initial start up. The vacuum is what pulls your AFM door open to allow air into the engine. By having a buddy open the door a little and you cranking the engine, you are helping it get the air it needs to run. This may not solve your problem but it is a typical issue with most rebuilds. After a little while of idling you probably won't need to touch the AFM door because the seals will have mated with the housings, therebye creating enough compression.

Are you using an s4 or s5 afm? Also what ecu and wiring harness do you have? Also is the afm plugged in?

89rx7vert 05-13-08 02:10 PM

thanx tuner ill do that..
and im using ervything from the s5 engine the harness, the afm and the ecu ...
yea the afm is plugged in

myersprostatus 05-13-08 02:28 PM

so you did a series swap? s4 into s5?
if so your gonna have to swap some parts out.
i have the same problem, i swapped an s5 turbo motor into my s4 and itll start but not idle. ive tried many things and ended up saying fuck it, im taking it to a shop this week

89rx7vert 05-13-08 02:48 PM

yea the reason it was so diffecult its because the monster ported 13b i got was not only a 13b it had the housings from a 12a (dont ask y) so it F*up a few things like where the motors mounds will go and a few vacumes...and ive never done a swap
b 4...
and the worse thing is that th ere no shop in my area that work on fcs so im onmy own:scared:

hondahater 05-13-08 07:27 PM

12a housings? WTF?

89rx7vert 05-14-08 01:28 AM

yea not sure how it works
by the way i tried oppening up the afm door and it started rite up..
i did not leave it on for long tho because i found a huge old leak from the
oil pan so i had:icon_no2: to shut it off
