stuttering problem from 3.5k till 6k ?????

When i am in full throttle my car will hit a stumbling block around 3.5k The characteristics of say fuel cut/detonation but not as harsh. It stumbles till about 5.5 or 6k and then it sky rockets to the rev limiter. So im stumped as to what to look for. the stumbling right before the secondarys tell me that it may be something with the secondaries but why only till 6k? This only happens at WOT and doesnt do it during half or even 75 percent throttle. It feels like a 3800 hesitation when in those throttle positions. please help thanks. -Gabe

My old 86 did that, but until redline... turns out one of those resistors going to the injectors was fried, so only 3 injectors were firing.. See if all 4 are firing. Maybe 1 inj. is clogged, bad, dead, whatever... Check and see if its getting a signal at all first though.

its an 88 j-spec turbo.

Sounds good but it never does it in first, if it was injectors wouldnt it do it in first aswell. Did yours do this?

I have an aftermarket BOV, would a leak do this??

Mine will do it through to redline aswell.

Thanks

Rhys

Well, I've never owned a turbo car, so I don't know how much help I can give ya... If it was indeed the injectors, I would *think* that it would do it anytime the motor was under a sufficient load, ie, in gear and accelerating at WOT. Try simple stuff first, run a good bottle of fuel sys. cleaner through, chekc that the injectors are getting their signals (which i can't remember exactly what they are supposed to read, but im sure somebody does)... Have you checked your fuel pressure? Everything in your fuel system needs to be in top working order to get enough fuel in.. that means a clean fuel pump screen, a fuel pump in good working order, a clean fuel filter, and injectors that are operating to spec. Good luck guys, just do the easy cheap stuff first!

I have an 87 non turbo, and mine's doing the same thing. At about 3500 it starts stuttering like mad. Pain in the butt! It does it for me in all gears, but it's really pronounced in 2nd. Also turning the A/C off reduces the effect considerably, but it's still there.

i think I might have to get mine off to a fuel injection specialist...

Yeap mine does the same thing at WOT at about 3500-3800rpm's. I bought a bottle of fuel injector cleaner that I'm putting through it tomarrow. Also, I checked the filter, it was the most disgusting water logged peice of crap filter that I've ever seen in my life, I don't think the owner changed it for the past 30k miles. So I just put in a replacement one from NAPA, only $17 and napa is right down the block, so it'll due until I get a K&N filter in there. That filter helped get past it a lil easier, but the problem is deffinatly still there. So hopefully the injector cleaner works, if it doesn't fix it entirely, then yeah I'm going to try to clean up the rest of the fuel system. Just do cheap and easy first, and remember to check your ground connections from the battery-engine-car to see if they're dirty or frayed anywhere, if they are, clean them up or reground them, or just get new grounding cables. How to do this is in and the 2nd gen. Archive at the top of the page. Good luck to all and myself

Sounds like secondary injectors, they should be coming on around 3500-4000 but should be consistant problem. possibly bad vaccuum line to fuel pressure regulator also or clogged fuel filter/bad pump.

I ran some injector cleaner thru mine and it made a small difference, but it's still there, no doubt about it. The air conditioner makes a BIG diff, much more noticable with it on.

This might sound like a dumb question... but what does WOT mean...?
