starter wont engage? and if you hit it with hammer it magnets to it?

i need pics of you starters for s4 turbos perfer them to be hooked up so i can see the way it looks. mine smokes a little if you try to crank it for 2 secs.
please help me after i fix this my project will be completed i hope... and it will run for the first time

Uhm, sounds like you have it wired wrong, maybe? It sounds like the electromagnet isn't disengaging.

you could take it to a parts store to have it tested free, and make sure you observe how they hook up the power, ground, and solenoid.

Disconnect the battery & pull it off.
Then clean it & bench check it at your neighborhood parts store.

If is worn out, hit the "for sale/WTB" forum.

nevermind i bench tested it today and its toast the armature does turn just slowly come out
