Gas Cap missing!

Hey all,

I just bought an S4 FC TII a few weeks ago and yesterday I went to fill it up for the first time (I was at school for a while and couldn't drive it). Anyway, I open up the gas door and "where the **** is my gas cap?!" I guess it got sold to me without one. Are there any drawbacks to driving without a gas cap? I guess I'll junkyard one, but damn.. what a pain in the ***.

They're cheap, just buy one.

The main purpose of the gas cap is to keep fuel vapor from escaping and polluting the air. You'll be perfectly fine in the meantime.

oh man i had the same problem, i guess me being stupid i left it at a gas station. I drove for about 3 weeks without one because i just couldn't find a replacement anywhere. I ended up paying 35 bucks to get one shipped here from the states, (live in canada). Big hassle.

I'm not sure on the safety of driving without one, one time i filled up at a full serve station and the attendant was freaking out. " YOU CANT DRIVE WITHOUT A CAP YOUR GONNA EXPLODE" i assured him that im sure its fine and i've been driving for almost two weeks without it.. he persisted that i get one immediately. I cant verify if its safe or not.. but i'm still alive.

I do believe that it could affect your gas mileage, just because all the fumes escape. I know that on all three of my rx7's after a good drive if you open the gas cap your can hear the pressure escape for a good 10 seconds sometimes longer. So pressure definitely is a factor to consider.

hope that helps lol

Here's the one I bought. Note the dust and the packaging that has a design that looks like it's from the 80's.

Maybe the car is making so much power it sucked the gas cap into the tank!

Eep. I don't know why they wouldn't, since the gas cap from just about any car will fit an RX-7. If not you could always beg for one from a gas station. I've lost my gas cap 2-3 times before. When I went back to the gas station to look for it, they gave me a different lost gas cap so I used that.

I would get a new cap as soon as possible. Otherwise you will lose a decent amount of fuel and your car will smell of gasoline.

i guess i'm guilty of the "leaving the gascap at the gas station" as well. anyway, i went to the local National Auto Parts store and picked up a new one for $9. not sure if there are any of those in your area but they had one in stock already since they're almost universal for any car from the late 80's to late 90's. thats what they said anyway
