speedometer failure

Exclamation speedometer failure

my speedometer is not working for some reason everything else in the cluster gauge r working fine, rmp, water temp, oil, wiper, turn signal, emergincy light all working normally except the speedometer....



does anyone know how to fix this?

HELP!

Gotta be the cable- either disconnected or broken.

Easiest thing to check first is the connection at the transmission.

hopefully it's not the plastic piece inside the transmission...

probably the cable though.

The cable also could have snapped right behind the cluster. make sure you check all connection points.

also having the same problem, why is it bad if its the sending unit (plasic peice) in the transmission? i checked my cable at tranny and it was connected just fine have not gotten to check behind the speedo

There is no sensor for the speedo. Its a mechanical speedo. If you see the plastic part in the trans, that means the cable is broken and the end connection is broken off the cable itself.

i dunno where the cable r located in the transmission so i guess im just gonna take the whole gauge out and c if everything is connected behind it.. O_O

well it almost always gets disconnected at the cluster anyway so I would be sure to check there.

speedometer cluster is kind of hard to remove.my Advice is to start on the Left side Disconnecting the two Crown type connectors.They are held on with a Tab located in the middle of the Wiring Connection.The speedo cable has a Squeeze type tab on the plastic ring surrounding the Cable...and Best thing I can say is Start Under the car and work to the Inside.It is Easier to look at the cable going IN to the transmission First than Tear at the Speedo surround and Disconnect four switches before even getting at the cluster..Good Luck,STYX.
