Question spark plug wiring

howdy! I got a n/a '86. I bought the car without plug wires and a leading coil. I got the coil but is the little, single blk wire suppose to be connected or is that just for testing the coil?

I don't know what wire goes to what plug. On the trailing coil I don't see it marked for #1 or #2.

It's my first rotary.
Thanks for the reply's!!

I don't think they have any wires, other than the plugs, running into the coils. There should be a plastic clip there, I think there's only two or four wires going into the leading.. don't quote me on that one.

For hooking up the wires, you should have a white dot on the front rotor housing, on both the leading and the trailing coils. It should go:

Leading Coil (lower plugs), white dot to the front rotor housing, non-marked to the rear rotor housing.

Trailing Coil (top plugs), white dot to the front rotor housing, non-marked to the rear rotor housing.

with the leading coils it makes no difference with what spark plug wire goes to which rotor, just that they are connected to the leading plugs (lower-bottom-etc).

If its a black wire with a little round barrel connector on it, it goes to nothing. I believe it is like a test wire, or aftermarket tach wire. Not needed to run.

Yup, test wire for connecting to a tach.

Not sure if you are referring to my avatar, but if you are, that's the Mazda "Renesis-engined" P2 car running in the ALMS series. Not very competitive at the moment, unfortunately, but running nonetheless.

You sure you're missing the black plastic covers on the trailing coils?
Look real good.
It does say "T1" and "T2", but it's just raised lettering.
Sometimes it's hard to tell cause it's black plastic.

I looked at that SAME Rx-7. It's like gold kind of, with faded red interior. His name was Rod Olsen i think. I stopped into look at it one time and he was asking too much for me to afford at the time, so I just hung around his shop and he showed me all his race porshe's and all that stuff. I could have looked around that place for hours.
How much did he end up selling it to you for?

yeah, and rod will talk your ear off, seems a pretty ok guy. I got it for 1200 with an old 13b thrown in. I had the car on a lift and the suspension and steering was so tight on it; figured it would make a nice project, it's hard to find one that hasn't been abused anymore. he's also got a buick 215 I might get from him for a future something.

Yeah, I offered him $1000 about a year ago, and he said someone was allready lined up to buy it for $1500....cough...bullshit..., it sat until you just got it. I really wanted that spare 13b though. Looks like you got a really good deal. Did he give you the leading ignition coil/ignitor? It was missing when i went to buy it.

there was a kid who was going to get it for 1500. I tracked down a coil on my own. I was expecting to do a bit like belts, plugs, eng/trans oil, vaccuum lines etc but rod had it all done already. I think he's retired now but he used to work teaching and working with disadvantaged kids. he also used to run formula atlantic in the early 80's and raced against andretti at elk river. he also used to test run that car around his neighborhood in town and ticked off all the neighbors! lol

Yep! I have F23: Green, on over a black basecoat. More pics of it here: http://www.killermonks.com/rx7 if you want to see it. I'm really happy with, and ended up painting a friends' bike with it recently: http://www.killermonks.com/gallery/Bekis_Bike The pin-strip is a little flakey in areas, but it looks good overall. VERY nice flake to work with, nice and thick.
