somethin keepin it from cranking...

i have a 91 N/A stock. i bought this car from a friend down the street a while bak. ive been doing my best to replace needed parts. i have replaced fuel injectors, fuel pump, fuel filter, battery, battery terminals, starter, fuel lines, etc.

the car will just keep tryin to start when i turn the key. somethin is keeping it from fully turning over. every now and then it halfway turns over but it just quits tryin immediately. ive got plenty of power. just give some ideas or somethin.

So the motor starts to turn over and then stops? It wouldn't be flooding if it just stops turning, it could only be a starter problem. If the motor spins, but never catches, then yeah it could be flooded. How long ago did you replace the starter? You may have just gotten a bad one.

Cranking = starter turning
Running = engine running

Is it cranking and not running? Then you probably have the car flooded. Follow the deflooding procedure found in the FAQ for FC sticky thread found at the top of this (the 2nd gen RX-7 technical) section.

at the moment the starter just turns now. nothin is catching. u can turn the key all you want to but it will just never actually start. i just put the starter in about a week ago. i think its fine. it seems like im missing spark or something. i just replaced the spark plugs today. im gonna try to replace the plug wires tomorrow. we tested the plug wires and the seem to be working just fine. this means there is spark goin to the brand new plugs but still nothin

I had the same problem with my FC, you should check if the Engine Fuse (15A) is not blown. Hopefully that should make the FC start Let me know if it does

I f the car is flooded than the motor will have low compression. All of the excess fuel in the motor will wash away oil and cause low compression. Try deflooding it, it may just be that your flooded.

I don't mean to steal the thread, but I was wondering whether or not a loose ground could really keep the engine from turning completely over.

I hope you get your car running Kandle's rx7, and fill us in if you figure out your problem.

^ if you fail to put on the starter ground on then your starter will never turn over.

Kandle, try more agressive deflood procedures, remove the injector fuse, remove the spark plugs, turn the car over to remove all gas, re-install fuse, re-install plugs and try to start. (remember to get your wires not mixed up)

If this does not work attempt to push start the car with another vehicle.

If this does not work then you will have to go back and test spark/fuel.

I didn't necessarily mean the starter ground but just any ground on the harness in general. But I do think I may be flooded too.
