Smokes only in the mornings?
Hey everyone, I have an S5 that only smokes in the mornings, and I mean a lot of smoke. Does anyone know why it would only smoke in the mornings? It sits at work shut off for 9 and a half hours and doesn't smoke when I drive it home, but if I let it sit over night then it smokes when I start it up in the morning. The smoke smells like burnt rubber as well.
Any ideas?

Oil slowly leaks past the oil control rings in a rotary. When new, the amount is virtually nothing, but as the motor ages, it increases.

That's true. Perhaps the cold is causing whatever's leaking to leak. Now since it smells like burning rubber would the best guess be oil? Or is that what coolant smells like? I'll get out and take a picture of it tomorrow and everyone can see how massive it is.

Burning coolant has a very distinct sweet smell. Burning rubber is almost definitely oil. The only fix is a rebuild, unfortunately. You can get by just fine as long as you check your oil a lot. If its actually going up, then that means gas is getting into it. If that is the case, you should probably change the oil more often than normal because the gas dilutes the oil, but even if you don't its probably ok. All it really damages is the rotor bearings, which will probably need replacing anyway.

do you still have your AWS..if so,it injects a small amount of coolant int othe engine, and can produce a little smoke on start up.I noticed thi sin my Car(Canada eh!)..cold weather starts would give you a bit of smoke, and then Dissipate.Afterwards,no smoke.another Culpreit could be a slight Leak in the fuel injectors(slight flood and the excess gas would start up the engine But make it seem like it is RICH) Or the Omp being stuck, and that would cause smoke too.

That's not the AWS, you're talking about the sub-zero cold start assist.
Mine did the same thing which is normal... till it starts coming out like that then it gets old then no biiiig deal.... It's only real bad when you drive down the road and then see it smoking like that while your cruising, then you'll have a tear roll down your cheek and rebuild the motor. Only to find out you'll spend bookus of money to rebuild it when only the main thing wrong was a series of rubber o-rings.
