Smoke from under engine.

After taking my car(89 TII) for a hard 40 minute test drive in the country, reving to around 6000 since if i go past that my check engine light comes on and i go into whaat i hear they call limp mode. Before i bought the car the guy mentioned the ecu throwing the TPS code; thats only thing i can think of now until i actually check into it myself... after all, the cars been sitting for 2 years. Returning home from the trip, i noticed a bunch of white smoke coming out from under the hood, somewhere behind or under the engine... it smoked for about 15 minutes after i had shut the car off... sounds pretty baad.. if anyones had a similar problem or experience in handling the situation they should help me out.

Coolant line?

I hate to say "stick your head in the smoke to see what it is", but... if you see smoke from a car, usually the best thing to do is smell it and determine what it is.

Yeah smell it. Coolant or oil?

Mine leaks oil all the time onto the CAT and gives off a nice white smoke coming out the bonnet every time I stop ;-) It's normal for me though hehe.

To be honest, i'm not very mechanically minded, but i found out that the smoke was coming somewhere from under the car, under the exhaust plate thing. I ran the ecu test and i got codes 12 and 18, both throttle position sensor. Went to 4 places today looking for that damn led with the red and black, no luck so far. If the codes being thrown, does that mean the tps is fried, or not adjusted properly? Guess ill find out after i get the led thing.

sounds like it could possibly be coolant leaking onto your exhaust mani. What does it smell like?

well first take a look under the hood and find the cracked hose thats leaking. its probably going to be on the passenger side seing as thats where the header comes out...

it's probably the coolant lines that run past your BAC. Either that, or the coolant supply for the turbo is leaking at the LIM under the ACV.....

Im starting to think its the transmission fluid. I recently had it replaced and doing so fixed all the tranny problems i had before the change. Now the problems are coming back so im thinking its leaking transmission fluid onto the exhaust or something? Is this possible?

Probably not, since the transmission and exhaust pipes are kind of on the same level, but about 10 inches apart. The sweet smell is a dead give away of coolant, how are your levels? Get under the hood and look around, get a nice small bright white flashlight, I've got a cheap 4 LED one or a luxeon one, and start looking for problems. If you see nohting topside, it's time to go down on her.

If it were a piston engine I'd scream head gasket.

Start looking at your coolant, first, then slowly illiminate things that it cannot be, don't jump around TPS to trans to coolant lines to LIM... one at a time.
