slow acceleration???

hey everyone. i have a 1990 gtu and it seems its a bit slower than it should be. i havent really driven any other rx7s but when i get on the gas it doesnt seem to push much. i've driven plenty of 240sx in my time and they have way better throttle response. the one i drove lately only had headers and exhaust done to it and just a new air filter attached to the MAF so i cant imagine it'd make that huge of a differance. i just feel if i'm goin WOT then i should be pushing harder. any tips?

Some people on here told me that Rx-7 aren't ment ot be fast at least the 2nd gens. Also Rotories lack a lot of torgue. What also could be the problem is tps isn't adjustest correctly. fuel filter needs to be changed. New plugs and wires. Mine started out really laggy, and I had to find out the problem myself. I had to fx an exhaust leak, change the fue filter, and ajust my TPS( throttle position sensor) It still is laggy, but I have just notice my Aux ports may not be working. So just start trouble shooting. I am new to all this so I am trying my best to help. Its better than getting a lame answer like, our cars are ment to be slow.

One indication the TPS needs adjustment is jumpy idle. Jumps between 1k-1500 or more. Very erratic and annoying lol.

just how slow is it?

if it's reaaaly slow you may have a serious engine issue.

if it just feels a little bit down on power I'd check for clogged cats, stuck 6 ports, etc.

stock FC NA's aren't "fast" but it should ANY rx7 has enough power to be fun.

its not extremely slow it just seems like it should have a bit more power. i would only assume it should have atleast as much get up as a 240sx! lol

an na rx7 has more hit point (hp :P) than a 240 so i would only assume ...

i doubt the cat has been changed since it was first bought. so i'll just go ahead and take that whole thing out! flex pipe instead

it also has less torque, and probably weighs a little bit more.

You got the car not too long ago. The car is completely stock. The first thing I would do would be to give it a full tune up if you don't know when it was last done. New plugs, wires, filters, fluids, etc... You should also do a compression test on it, low numbers = dying motor hence your lack of acceleration. The FC N/A isn't the fastest car either, I wouldn't compare it to other cars that you have driven in the past.

Do a full tune up, then get yourself some headers and a 2.5" full exhaust. You'd be surprised how much power can be freed up by getting rid of the stock exhaust. Rotaries love to breath freely.

will do guys! exhaust will be the first mod she'll get! i was contemplating on if i should do exhaust or suspension. i was leaning towards exhaust since it'll free up some power and now i'm 100% on it since you guys suggest it! thanks for all the help! i'll keep you guys updated on how it goes!

Get a drop in K&N filter, clean everything and change stuff like said above (fluids n such)

I lubed up my TB, put some WD in the throttle cable cover, new exhaust (dont gut your cat) make sure your 5/6ports are working right

My n/a fc took a integra, I'm unsure how fast those are but I lol'd at the fact my friend didn't even WOT my fc (It was one of the integras with the 4 circle lights on the front)

i know they arent but i figured they'd be able to handle about the same as a car with less hp than it.
