slipping help?

1986 gxl 5 spd

when im driving the car it pulls hard in 1st and 2nd but in 3,4,5 when trying to excelerate the rpms will climb around 1000-2000 then lower then rise again, when attempting to excelerate the cars speed barely changes until the rpms have risen then dropped then it will seem to speed up better with the rpm changes,,there is no noise in the trans,or and shaking or anything else going on,so im wondering if its the clutch or if it could be something else,
car still grips hard when down shifting, and the clutch peddle feels great etc, so iuno were to start on looking to fix this,

Time for a new clutch. Make sure you get the flywheel resurfaced.

Call around more. There should be a shop that can do it within a week, it's not that big of a deal with the proper tools and know-how.

IMO, you should have your flywheel resurfaced anytime you replace a clutch.

Just baby it as best you can until you get the time/money to have it replaced. If you beat on it, it will get to a point will it will not hold power at all.

A clutch job in an FC is super easy compared to the FWD cars nowadays. A mechanic can get it done in a few hours.
