Shift fork issus

Driving my car today my clutch became suddenly hard to shift I could still go through the gears but it would be crunchy feeling, chatter, and the clutch pedal would not go to the floor.

Upon inspection it came pretty evident that the shift fork had mispositioned itself and moved down a bit and the slave cylinder piston had also moved downward at an awkward angle.

My question are: Where is the clutch forks fulcrum point located, is it common for this to break and what is the process of replacement after transmission removal?

The factory service manual does not explain the clutch fork replacement very thoroughly.

Thanks.

the pivot ball may have broken.

the fork is held in place by a wire clip that secures it on the pivot ball. it's very easy to remove once the trans is off.

Any suggestions of something to check before I pull the tranny? I would hate to pull it and find out it did not need to be removed.

I'm not sure if it can be done, but it might be possible to remove the rubber boot the shift fork goes through, just to get a look at it. Either way, you are most likely going to have to pull the tranny to repair whatever did break. It's also possible the fork itself bent or cracked at the pivot point, or one of the forks that straddle the release bearing.

Yeah I'm almost 100% positive you have a broken pivot. Shitty pedal feel that changes and is crunchy and notchy. I had that same problem and when I dropped the tranny the broken piece of the pivot fell right out. It was around $30 shipped for a new fork, pivot and spring to my door from Mazda.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the s4 and s5 pivot? because it is a 20 dollar difference on mazdatrix.

To be honest i am unsure of what transmission i have, i have searched for quite some time and have discovered the easiest way to tell is on the transmission mount yet descriptions seemed vague and could not find a good picture to illustrate the picture.

I believe the rear transmission mount on the s5 uses 4 bolts and the holes are on each side at an angle, the s4 transmission mount bolts on with only 2 bolts on the bottom horizontal surface of the transmission. This is what I learned, as a surprise, when putting my turbo s5 jdm motor and trans in my 87 s4 rx7 turbo II. Hope this helps in identifying. Now I need to find a s5 transmission.

I guess it is a S5, sucks cause I gotta pay 20 more dollars for the pivot, probably because of something little like a different size thread
