Talking Seriously guys, stop jacking with me

OK, now I've searched plenty and people keep talking about the Flywheel nut being 2 1/8 inch??!?!?

Is that right??!?!

After countless confused and amused employees at Home Depot, O'Reilly's and Autozone I finally found one at NAPA but it's 59 bucks and it isn't even an impact socket.

Stop yankin' my chain and tell me how big the flywheel nut really is. And if it's 2 1/8 inch, where in the world did you get a socket? How much did you pay? And if you live near Dallas (assuming the tornados don't get you first) can I borrow it!?!?

Cheers,
iSP33D-for-J3SUS

57mm I believe is what you need. I just bought the flywheel removal breaker bar from mazdatrix and it was easy(ish) to get the nut off. Napa wanted $75 for a damn socket to take care of it.

edit: I had two very big friends hold the motor down while I jumped on the breaker bar. Only took two jumps.

2 and 1/8" or 54mm, try Harbour Freight for cheapness or Sears for lifetime warranty.

*cough* Lifetime warranty or refund/store credit They dont ask any questions ussualy. I just told them it wasnt needed anymore because I got it off another way. Only put 1 or 2 tiny marks on the inside edge of the socket, which no one will ever see or care about. Got the money back and bought some other tools I needed. Liar? Yes. Thrifty? Hell yea!

I work in a mashine shop and made mine out of a piece of 3" dia. cold rolled. It's 54mm or 2 1/8". And you'll need cheater bars.

Sears Craftsman 2-1/8" socket is $30.
Since this is a 3/4" drive, most of us don't have 3/4" drive tools, so you can get a 3/4" drive to 1/2" drive adapter for another $7.
For about $40, you just got almost everything to take the flywheel nut off.

Yep, except I got it from Racing Beat. I ended up jumping on the welded-on breaker bar to get it off, so I figure it was at at least 600 ft-lbs.
On a side note, I actually sheared off a 1/2" impact grade adapter from Sears on the front pulley nut. The sales guy just kinda stared at me for a while in disbelief then gave me a full refund.

just go to Sears and get the socket. i bought mine there. i'll let you know tommorrow. i kinda just put my richard pryer in the exhaust manifold in the rear rotor where it would lock up the motor. got an extra long pipe. put it in the breaker bar.. and BAM i knocked it loose.

Yeah, that thing is eeeeviiiiil. The flywheel nuts on both the seized block I pulled out and the running block I swapped in both melted after a few seconds of wide-open on my impact wrench- I ended up needing a better than 6' section of pipe on the end of my breaker bar after heating the hell out of the e-shaft bolt with a torch. I was seriously worried that the bolts holding the engine to the stand were going to let loose before the damn e-shaft bolt did!

You know, this is in the FAQ:

How do I remove the flywheel nut and flywheel?
The flywheel nut is torqued to approximately 350 Ft-LBs and is 54MM or 2 1/8" in size. You will need a large breaker bar or impact gun and then some means to keep the flywheel still as the nut is spun off. The flywheel can then be pulled off with a puller or pried off from behind. 54MM or 2 1/8".
