S4 UIM Stuck
1986 GXL
I am hung up right now trying to remove my UIM. I have all the vac hoses, coolant hoses, and fuel hoses removed. I even the fuel rail/secondary injectors/pressure regulator off (I am wanting to send the injectors out for cleaning). All 4 nuts are removed off of their studs, and I have the bolt removed from between the runners. I have all 3 bolts removed from the plenum support.
However, I still cannot get the UIM to come off the LIM. It is stuck firm and won't even budge 1mm. It's not even wiggling. Am I missing something here? I am getting a sinking feeling that a previous owner might have used RTV glue instead of a proper gasket.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Reach around Back on the Upper manifold on the Passenger side
you will find a 10 mm bolt holding the rat's nest to the manifold.
.(just feel the manifold runner, between the manifold and the Firewall you should Feel the Bolt's head).

On the front corner (pass. side) of the UIM, there's a small "ear" sticking out on both UIM and lower. Get a large flat screw driver and use that as leverage to pry it up to get it loose.
Previous owner may have used a strong silicone or something. You never know.
Use a blue RTV and let it cure before putting it back on. It never hardens solid.

this is what had me puzzled when i removed mine... i would bet that this is what is keeping the OP from removing the UIM.

I did forget the 10mm bolt. When I removed that it was still stuck. So then I tried just a little harder with a screwdriver and it came right of
Thanks everyone.
Now I will remove the primary injectors, bag them, and send them out to be cleaned. Then I will do something about the Fuel Pulsation Damper, either new PD or Banjo bolt. I understand both sides of the argument on that and I will make my decision. Also, clean out the oil injectors and inspect the OMP lines. I have already rebuilt the seals and cleaned out the OMP itself. I will replace all the vac lines and fuel lines. I think I will also do the TB mod while I am at it.
When this is all said and done, my car will have:
new thermostat,
new spark plug wires,
new coolant lines
new vac lines
new belts
new fuel lines
new fuel filter,
new spark plugs,
new oil,
new oil filter
new oil filter pedestal o-rings,
new water pump,
new thermostat gasket,
new UIM/LIM gasket
new water pump housing to block gasket and water pump to w-p housing gasket,
all new worm-style hose clamps instead of the stock wire clamps,
new brake pads on the rears (the fronts are still about at 300 thousandths),
new brake fluid,
new clutch fluid,
racing beat thermal bypass pellet replacement
If I don't stop myself, I will tear down and rebuild the engine next!
Thanks everyone.
