A different type of wheel hop?

first off i searched, but this isn't the normal wheel hop.

sometimes if i hit a pothole or manhole cover with my p/s rear tire my rear end will clunk and the back end will start to hop unless i let off the gas a bit. This can also sometimes happen if i'm taking a right hand turn and the road is very uneven (patched)

it worries me, cuz my normally grippy car is suddenly floating in the back. i've looked at the rear end and nothing seems broken, and all the mounts/bushings seems ok.

ideas?

Blown strut? It's a giveaway if there's external leakage, but they can leak internally too. Otherwise, I'd be looking for worn DTSS bushings or simply a loose bolt at the DTSS bushing, or either of the other 2 bolts holding the floating hub.

I agree. Probably a blown shock that's not doing its job. It could also chew up your rear tire from the bouncing.

I had this problem on my GTU (RIP) after I installed a brand new set of tokico shocks. It turned out I had a defective shock.

Blown strut, or a loose strut.

Had the same exact problem, thought it was one of my rear struts not being right enough, but no matter how much I cranked on it, it never stopped spinning. When I went to install my coilovers I discovered it was blown. Never had a problem since.

i don't doubt that. my buddy put em on his subie (not even close to related but still) and he change was pretty dramatic. given my suspension is 22 years old, i'm sure it'll be a very nice change of pace. only question is eibach progressive rate springs (i'm thinking better all around dd) or some more aggressive springs (probably RB)
