Exclamation rx7 or prelude

ok im still deciding if i should buy an rx7 na (s4 or an s5) or a 92-96 prelude si.
cause i see that na rx7s are a little slow stock but look good. or a si prelude cause i think there quick and quicker than rx7 stock. but i wanna know how much faster will it be with new exuahst headers, intake , new tires, rims, short shifter , clutch, and a lighter flywheel. will it be fatser than a prelude stock? will it have faster 0-60 time and quarter mile time thats what i want to know. and i have a budget of 3-4k by the end of the summer to buy etheir one.

1996 Honda Prelude Si 160 hp 2866 lbs
1991 Mazda RX-7 Base S5 160 hp 2787 lbs

Unless you are getting the Prelude VTEC version(190HP) there are small differences.

Is this your first vehicle?

If you buy an rx and get used to rear wheel drive you will never ask this kind of question again. If for no other reason, and there are many more, always go rear drive. The fub factor is way higher.

i guess it depends if you want to be like everyone else and drive a civic or prelude with a loud fart can and an intake and since it's louder think you are moving quicker. 7's are not your average car.

If you get a RX-7, you will have alot of electrical and startup issues.

a 7 will be more maintenance, you will just have to weigh the pros and cons. the 7 is a sports car vs a grocery runner. not being biased just the 7 is balanced better, has better stock handling and is RWD vs FWD.

to RWD or not to RWD, that is the question. i think if you had a rx7 you would learn more things machanical wise.

HOW DIFFERENT DO YOU WANNA BE? thats the questions. My friend has a 97 Vtech prelude. its pretty cool, reliable. But i see 5 of them on my way to work. Ive seen 3 2nd gen's my whole life, on the road!!! When people come up to me and say "Whats that?" its worth my countless problems I have with her. Your just so different in a Rx7. A sense a pride has been instilled in me, and i wouldnt change a thing.

get a t2

Edit: t2= (s4) 180 hp. I have so many problems. But when it is running I feel so good just cruising around.... I see tons of preludes, and hardly any rx7s on the road. I love the looks I get when I am driving around in it. (I think they are looking bcuz it needs a MAJOR paintjob. Definitely weigh your opptions. Maintenance and SUPER fun vs fwd and pretty standard ricer.

spell check please!

hah just messing

but seriously, it just depends on what you like better. i personally hate FWD (I've driven my friend's prelude and GTI) compared to a RWD. I like being different from the millions of preludes out there.

You say your scared of a RX-7? What reasons? Is the wankel too much for you to handle? hah

and when it comes to modifying, any car can become fast if you throw enough money at it. hell, that AE86 has a 20B in it.

if you're scared of buying it, then right now probably isn't the best time in your life to own a car like an rx7.
i personally would go with the prelude in your situation so you have an easier to maintain car while you're starting to learn how to work on them, and decide later what more you want in a car.

If you are looking for speed, instead of a N/A, purchase the turbo II or a muscle car.

- Remember like everyone here says, be prepared for maintenance.
- Considering you live in Rhode Island-where it snows, and since this is your first vehicle, a prelude may be more pratical for your situation.
- RX7 mpg aren't so great unless well-tuned, with these soaring gas prices, a prelude would be more economical.
- Uniqueness? Like someone has stated before, you will see preludes left and right, while an RX7, some people mistaken them for something else such as a corvette.

It's all up to you. Don't let us pick the car for you.

a prelude is ricey if you plan to do any type of fast driving with it, they are not fast cars. they called it ricey to you because you compared 1/4 miles times so this is about it being a ricey car. do you really think when they designed it that they had visions of it at the 1/4 mile track pulling hard numbers?!

come freaking on.... this is just dumb and you're kidding yourself.

Rice is what you make of it... I've seen riced out Honda's as well as riced out RX-7's... It depends on the owner more so than the car... We're telling you to get a Prelude because an RX-7 is purely an enthusiast's car, so there's a certain love you have to feel for it that can't be descibed... It's similar to the emotion that old school VW guys feel for their Weber'd Beetles... Some people call it crazy...

If you don't KNOW you need an RX-7, then you probably don't need an RX-7... That "love" I described is the only thing that will keep you insane throughout the process...

"Sane" is a relative term when describing a rotorhead... You should know that...
